Do benzo's effect endorphins?

I think I read that benzodiazepine use negatively effects the bodies endogenous opioid system? Does anyone know about this? In light of the fact that in some people benzo use can cause or exacerbate depression, could this give credability to an Endorphin Deficiency Syndrome being a possible cause of depression/anxiety disorders?
