there are lots of p-docs out there. If you have ADHD and you think you would benefit from a trial of stimulants, your doc should try them. Adult ADHD is still ADHD and unless you have health problems, like a heart condition, that would bar their use...stimulants can be very effective AND they are recognized as the standard treatment for ADHD, child and adult types. So...I say, if your doc won't help you out, go to a doc who specializes in ADHD (maybe even adult ADHD) and see what happens. You shouldn't pay someone $$$ to help you and have to stick to their agenda--thats a waste of time, money, and effort.
