There is a withdrawal syndrome, but since tramadol is related to Effexor and has some similar reuptake characteristics, one could argue that saying ultram is "addictive" for causing withdrawal is inconsistent, since Effexor causes severe withdrawal in some people but is not seen as "addictive" by most psychiatrists.
