In reply to Parnate (tranylcypromine) and heart palpitations?, posted by Caedmon on May 13, 2006, at 12:33:18
> Ever since I started Parnate (tranylcypromine) I have had occasional, mild heart palpitations. They usually occur at night while laying down. They really aren't bothersome so much as kind of curious, although I try and lay on my right side if it does happen. This is independent of any elevation in blood pressure or heart rate (I've checked - I'm holding steady at 108/65 and 60-70 bpm usually.)

Last year, due to a freak car accident, they discovered I have an aneurysm in my ascending aorta, so I was in the hospital overnight and they ran tons of tests. My heartbeats are fine. Of course, each of us has different reactions to meds. Have it checked out to make sure there isn't something else medically wrong though. That's the wise thing to do. My mom has heart palpitations and isn't on Parnate. Some folks just have them; however, since they started with the Parnate, it could be causing them. If a cardiologist says it's not dangerous, I'd not worrry, but as I said, I'd get it checked out. Always better to be safe than sorry.
Let us know if you find out anything, please.
