The only ADs that worked for me were Prozac and Effexor-XR, BUT both 'were useless' when life stressors became to bad.
I seem to feel much more comfortable on Seroquel, Trileptal, Valium.
Last eve skipped 'trazodone' for sleep, as don't really want to keep it, and I get nightmares when on it, and took just 100mg Seroquel (not the 300mg P prescribed in hospital!), for sleep, and awoke a few times, but got prob' 10 hours.
I am probably still withdrawing from Effexor-XR, so it may be hard for me to know/explain exactly what Seroquel, Trileptal, and Valium (the long-acting benzo) are really targeting and doing.
All-in-all, feel I have patience, feel I have courage, more wisdom, more faith, and even humility(me?!), and feel no fight-or-flight type feelings, as have always been 'me.'
I fit the PTSD and borderline diagnoses much more than the bipolar; but these meds (I think these are bipolar meds.) are helping me tremendously.
Maybe Phillipa, maybe not, to answer, am I bipolar.
Will try stay off the AD Desyrel (trazodone) @ sleep, and use just the 100mg Seroquel, then a bit of Seroquel,..Trileptal,..and Valium during day.
Will keep you appraised of how its goes.
Why are you fearful of Seroquel? My dose is high because of recent 'nervous system shutdown' ... and don't suppose most people would start at such high dosage.
always, cf
