Actually, the only difference is the CR version has a coating that allows it to travel past your stomach to your lower intestine before being absorbed. If you'll look at prescribing information for Paxil vs Paxil CR, you will see that the CR isn't approved for as many things as the regular Paxil.

If you can tolerate (no stomach problems) the regular version, I would stick with it. I actually had withdrawals when I went from 20mg Paxil to 25mg of Paxil CR because it didn't absorb as well.

Also, since it breaks down in the lower intestine, it actually gave me severe diarrhea attacks.

Paxil CR came out of course because of patent issues on the regular version running out. All this infomation came from a pharmacist at Glaxo, the makers of it, not just my opinion.
