Is your doctor a psychiatrist? Sounds more like a family doctor's concerns. 0.25mg of Xanax is a very, very small amount. When I started the Wellbutrin, I don't know what I would have done without Xanax. Many people take Xanax or something similar to get them through the initial weeks of Wellbutrin, and then they can either reduce or eliminate the Xanax.
