Oh My God - DO NOT STOP COLD TURKEY and I DON'T THINK you're supposed to break the capsules up! You need to talk to your doctor and get the 37.5 mg capsules to taper yourself off the right way. You should only go down a max of 37.5 increments and then be on it for a while.
I almost killed myself by tapering too fast and I was on 225mg of Effexor - I ended up in ER and was unconscious for over an hour. Now I'm suffering from a bronchial infection and inflamed vocal chords b/c of the breathing tubes they stuck down my throat. Effexor makes you suicidal - Be careful with the drug.
