I feel like the Effexor is no longer working. Is this possible? Does anyone have experience to share?

Yes!! I am taking effexor XR as well and I have been on it for several years and I feel it is not working anymore either. I go to a new Doc on Monday, so we will see what he puts me on. Good luck to you.
