Dear Michael,

from my experiences with mood stabilizers, they do exactly as what they say: They keep your mood at a pretty even flowing level. As for just taking a mood stabilizer by itself to help alleviating depression, it hasn't done much at all for me except for possibly keeping me out of the lowest point I could go. It doesn't really have many antidepressant qualities but it does seem to work well with an AntiDepressant so you don't have a "Rollercoaster" ride with your moods. I myself take Depakote. Try it with Effexor, it worked wonders for me.
