> I cycle (maybe bipolar II) and my pdoc wants me to try a mood-stabilizer. I also have OCD. I've recently dipped into a bad depression. At it's worse it feels like the inside of my head is bleeding. Might a mood-stabilizer help with such a depression? I'm not concerned about my upswings. I only have problems with feeling "to good" on AD's. I thought it would be worth a try to try a different class of med. Michael73

The only "mood stabilizer" that I have found to work well for depression on its own has been lithium. There are others here that would say similar things about Lamictal. My highs are reasonably controllable and the worst ones usually are anti-depressant induced as well. If you continue an AD (which you might need to do), you might consider simply lowering the dose while you are on a mood stabilizer to get the cycling into a more normal range. Since you have OCD symptoms probably a low-dose of an SSRI that works the best for that would be a good idea (with the mood stabilizer). Also, throwing some Klonopin in should help with the OCD and mood stability as well.
