You asked the key question, the original anxiety vs. drug withdrawal, and the answer is I don't know, but my guess is anxiety. Your symptoms sound like it, mirtazapine withdrawal is very rare (but not weight gain!), and anxiety usually comes back when meds are withdrawn. I'd talk to your doc about starting a new anxiety drug that's more weight neutral.
