Depite the name NDMDA, almost all of the people that come are highly bipolar whereas I am pretty much purely unipolar depressive. We tend to have different histories and issues. I am going to try a NAMI meeting this month. But I've volunteered to advise the DMDA group on establishing a web site in support of the support group, and to implement whatever is decided.

I don't want to make too big of a deal about it because I don't doubt he is an effective psychopharmacologist. We decided I would go off of Parnate to try Paxil since I also have social anxiety disorder. I was certain I would suffer effects if I quit cold turkey ( I had just about run out of meds from another doc's Rx) but he was confident it was no problem and I didn't find anything on Pubmed to prove myself right.

After 2 days of bizarre nightmares and a couple weeks of flu/insomnia/spacey symptoms, I found in the Physician's Desk Reference: "should be discontinued gradually" but it didn't elaborate so I can see how it could be forgotten if he didn't prescribe it often. I probably wasn't insistant enough with him, due to the social phobia.

Similar thing had happened previously on Nardil, but they had warned me that time. Interestingly, the nightmares had a (different) consistant theme in each case. Nardil knocks out your REM (dream) sleep, so that probably relates to the wierd, scary-ass dreams when you quit.

peace and health,

S.D.
