THANKS!!!

> An Italian pharmacist was nice enough to respond back quickly as to whether sulpiride or amisulpride should be used for depression. Both sulpiride and amisulpride are marketed in Italy. Amisulpride is one of the major drugs used for depression in Italy. Sulpiride, however, is mainly used for gastro-enterical disorders caused by depression or ansiotic states, according to the pharmacist. Amisulpride is preferred over sulpiride for depression because it is more effective and it has less side effects. Sulpiride's side effects include dry mouth and sedation.

Dear Andrew,

Your reply is appreciated more than you can know.

I spent quite some time cruising the Internet last night trying to find the type of clinical information you have provided here. I had pretty much come up empty. The best I could do was to use Medline to explore some detailed pharmacology to make a best guess. It seems that amisulpride is a bit more selective for DA D2/D3 receptors than is sulpiride. Amisulpride looks better on paper.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Thanks.
