An Italian pharmacist was nice enough to respond back quickly as to whether sulpiride or amisulpride should be used for depression. Both sulpiride and amisulpride are marketed in Italy. Amisulpride is one of the major drugs used for depression in Italy. Sulpiride, however, is mainly used for gastro-enterical disorders caused by depression or ansiotic states, according to the pharmacist. Amisulpride is preferred over sulpiride for depression because it is more effective and it has less side effects. Sulpiride's side effects include dry mouth and sedation.
