More on So. Cal

I'm in So. Cal in an extremely beautiful coastal area. Property values continue to soar every year. Developers have built up almost every inch of this place now. More and more, I get very discouraged by the pompous shows of affluence. People can be extremely shallow and snobbish in this area and are very status oriented. One of the few things Dr. Laura ever said that I agree with is that people these days value success over goodness. (Please accept my sincerest apologies for quoting her.) A visit to a new mall was a jarring experience recently. The huge parking structure was filled with top of the line Mercedes and Lexus (Lexi?). My 6 year old Honda Civic was the jallopy of the group, and it still looks pretty good. When I went inside, shoppers were dripping with wealth. People usually dress that nicely at events of high culture, but why dress up that way to buy candle holders from Pottery Barn? I live in a mall culture. Also, this is considered a "white flight" area, so there's not a lot of racial diversity besides the day laborors who come over from Mexico. I think around here you just have to look a little harder to find sincere people. They are out there, but not in large numbers. Lol, I can rag on So. Cal, but I get offended when out-of-staters do it.
