LA SUCKS LA SUCKS LA SUCKS LA ********************************

(Theme song from Dragnet - backround)

I know - I live here. I was even born here; but don't tell anyone.
LA, like NY, is a big, dirty, scary, very nasty world-class city that will eat you alive. Every language on earth is spoken here. The air is unbreathable, and if you don't have a car, you're shit-outta-luck.
There are vast areas where even the police are afraid to go.

You looking for a quiet haven? You want to park your Volvo wagon, and shuffle down quiet leafy streets to Ye Old Expresso Bar, and discuss late 17th century French poetry? This ain't the place.
Do you snap your gum, can't remember what century the Civil War was fought, and use the term "Awesome!" a lot? LA is the place for you. Where did the Beverly Hillbillies come when they struck it rich? Anybody watch Jay Leno when he asks people on the street simple questions? This place sucks.

The chief industry here is movies. And while a lot of movies are sentimental, the movie industry itself is about as sentimental as a that chromed, silly-putty-robot who chased Arnold Schwartzenegar in Terminator II.
Gorgeous, blonde, barbie-doll types, trying to break into show-biz; are thick as flies; I can hardly stand it. People are so shallow here, you can use 'em for place-mattes. They spend all their time at the gym, working out with their personal trainer, Bruce; talking into their cellphones about last night's guided visualization session with their guru, Zonga Dim; while outside, a poor Latino polishes their Land-Rover. Have I left out any cliche's? Are they true? Yes.

Despite all this, a few creative people do manage eak out a living on the crumbs that fall from the movie stars' plates. As the home of the film, TV, Music, and Computer Media industries, it's pretty intense here, and uncaring. I had a girlfriend who was a newspaper photographer; I went along on assignment a lot. I saw the whole stinking mess from the desert to the sea. If you guys can spead the word about how LA sucks, I would appreciate it, because it's getting crowded here. Thanks

(Dragnet theme fades)
