I went from Nardil to Parnate about a year ago. I was on Nardil for about 3 yrs but stopped due to side effects including huge weight gain too. Unfortunately Parnate didn't work half as well for depression or social phobia for me, but of course YMMV. I think it's definitely worth a try if Nardil's been good.
Also, Marplan, an MAOI more like Nardil, is available now in the US, but it may cause significant weight gain too. Parnate made me hyper and tired at the same time, while Nardil seemed to relax me. I myself got toxic on Parnate, but that was because I was taking a large amount of it (80mg). Just means that too much of it built up in my system and made me physically ill (like a bad flu) and a little psychotic. As long as you take a normal dose of Parnate, I wouldn't worry about toxicity, especially if you've never gotten toxic on anything before.
I now take amisulpride, which helps for social phobia, in that I want to go out and do things and be around my friends.good luck,
