When will happy come back?

Posted by Phil on March 12, 2014, at 19:00:02

anhedonia is defined as the inability to experience pleasure from activities usually found enjoyable. (hard to treat)
got my friends back and for two full days i felt happy. not manic happy, just happy. i realized that anhedonia has been with me the whole time. the last few nights hallucinations are back. slept maybe an hour. and it's back.
that brief glance at happiness showed me why it's so hard for me to get excited to do anything. it's because i don't feel good.
i don't exaggerate when talking MI. i don't have to. my doctor asks, how have you been? really well. phil, would you like to try that again? really scared, doc. i can only go so many rounds with the beast. when will happy come my way again? it was so cool. i went from i can't to where do i begin? there's so much to do.

At this point, my expectations are of moments of being content, and flashes of laughter. It has become easy for me to curl up on the floor. Easier yet to give myself in to the peace of meditation. It is not happiness, but it isn't painful.
When I am amongst those who I know well, I can mask well. Otherwise, the tears just flow. Nothing in between.

Happy comes and goes. So does sad. I'm finding that the more I try to let things go and wait for them to pass, the better I can cope. Sometimes the bad stuff doesn't pass so fast. I try to force myself to move my body. When that doesn't work, I lay down and try to empty my mind and drift for a time, sometimes a long time. But, for me, this is a vast improvement over becoming agitated and planning how to kill myself.

I long to be happy again as happiness is wonderful and until age 50 I have to say I was happy. Things rolled off my back. But ever since my thyroid went and every time I go to the doctor something is found wrong I only have glimpses of the happiness I once knew. I'd like to be happy while I am still able to do most stuff. Phillipa
