How's your water consumption?

Yesterday I drank 2 cups of water & 1 cup of juice.

Today I drank 2 cups of water (so far).

I tend not to count tea, as it's a diuretic, I think?

At Weight Watchers we learned that tea, coffee, etc. all counts towards our water intake. The diuretic effect of the caffeine isn't that great, you still end up taking in more water.

It's alcohol that can't be counted as water. Alcohol really dehydrates you. I can tell.

WOW - I'm surprised I can count tea! I had heard once that if you drink, say a cup of tea, you can count it as half a cup.

Do they count it at full value at Weight Watchers?

K

I don't drink alcohol, so I don't need to worry about that.

I drank plenty yesterday, although I didn't keep track. Give me a day or two to get the main parts of my computer up and running, and I'll have more concentration.

I'd need to drink more than eight glasses I think, given the sweating.

:(

Two big water bottles and two bottles of iced green tea and water from cups inbetween. Phillipa

Fluid buddies

I was too engrossed in loading programs today to pay a lot of attention. But I'm aware that I drank a lot and was still constantly thirsty.

If I'm going to count fluid intake, I'm going to have to stop shedding bottles of drinks as I walk around the house. Traditionally I leave them, never even notice, take a new one, then leave it somewhere, but as I wander around I'll run into one of the old ones. Fortunately I prefer my water room temperature.

I prefer liquids at room temp also, except tea.

When I was doing so Very Well with drinking at my daughters, I was thirsty all the time also. It seemed like my body was getting what it needed & saying "More, More, More - this is what I have been wanting - you've finally 'got it' "

Also I was both drinking & peeing more in the night. That was a nuisance, but my daughter firmly believes that as the body gets properly hydrated, these things level out.

Not doin' great today by any means. I think I might need to buy some juices that I really like - apricot comes to mind! For the times when I'm really baulking (sp?) at water.

:-) K

I've tried to keep track of my bottles, and so far I think I've taken in 6 1/2 of my expected 8 8oz servings of fluids. Maybe 7. I think I can make eight before bed since I'm still incredibly thirsty.

But I'm not sure 8 is enough given how much sweating we're doing down here.

It hasn't been all that hard the last couple of days because I've been unbelievably thirsty. I've also been unbelievably hungry. I seem to go through cycles.

I'm way behind today

I slept most of the day and haven't had much of a chance to drink anything. And it's unbelievably hot again. The a/c can only do so much...

Maybe I'll finally make the peppermint tea that I've had forever.

64 oz not enough

In reply to Dinah, posted by Kath on June 30, 2009, at 19:17:06

Well, not for me.

Mackie Shilstone was on the news saying a good rule of thumb for hydration is 1/2 body weight in ounces. So I weigh 200 pounds, and should drink 100 oz per day, not 64.

Possibly given the sweating right now, more...

I woke up with a dehydration headache again today, so even though I seem to be drinking what I'm supposed to, it's obviously not enough.

Ok, today I will set out to drink 100 oz.

OK - half the body weight in ounces.

So I'm between 110 & 115 pounds.

So going by that 'rule' I should drink about 55 ounces a day.

so 6 cups or something.

The last few days I've been doing abysmally.

(clears throat) aHEM - drinks a cup of (eeeooo) water.

:-)

Actually, today, I had a large glass in the car (was doing a lot of driving here & there) & noticed that I do better with having a mouthful at a time.

I used to weigh 200 pounds, but that was way too much for my height. I feel better now that I'm at the recommended body weight for my height. My fluid intake is easier to balance, too.

The only thing I seem to want to drink is tea (with cream & sugar).

Anything else is sorta forced.

Except ginger ale, but it's so loaded with sugar & I don't like to use the diet kind.

As my weight dropped, my body fat ratio declined and my skin was able to transpire fluids I consumed. My metabolism increased at the same time because I restored it's function through exercise and a sensible eating pattern that starts early in the day and ends well before I retire.

So I seemed better able to absorb fluids as well as better able to transpire fluids, and my body was less prone to retain fluids in cells where it fluids previously provided insulation against the cooling processes I needed in warm weather. It was like I was walking around as one big hot milkshake left out in the sun, and everytime I added water, it just gave the slimy mess more fluid with which to make internal slime. I would probably have died of a heat related disease had I not stood up to those who encouraged me to destroy my ego, which seemed to be happening when I let myself into environments where others' ego rested on their perception that they were at least better off than myself.

Not putting down AA, by the way.

Thx for checking Deneb,

rather abysmally.

Not doing very well & the pinch test (back of hand) leaves a very SLOW-to-get-back-to-normal ridge!!

Thanks for reminding me.
