Yeah, our vege hot-dogs are pretty good too.
The usual (meat kind) are only about 2% meat (typically) and the rest is soy anyways.
Lots of sauce and mustard and you really can't tell the difference.
They are expensive, though.

Still, hotdogs hereabouts list their ingredients in declining percentage content, and (mystery) meat is always first.
I was simply trying to put the conversation onto a factual basis. There are all-meat hotdogs (no fillers), cheaper "regular" ones with varying amounts of fillers, but always meat is first on the list. Then, you have the veggie ones, which as I say, would not exist as a separate item, if the meat ones really had as much filler as you seem to be implying.

I think the regular cheap hotdogs in NZ were something like 2% meat. Mostly soy.
A year or so back we changed our food regulations (on meat pies anyway) to bring them into line with Australian regulations. Lots of recepies had to change. Maybe Damos knows... I think it may have been 5%.

I think it may have been 5%.Ya, I just checked the AU/NZ regs. Minimum of 30% meat in a processed meat product. If it's called a sausage, 50%. All ingredients other than additives or flavourings must be listed if 5% or more of the content. All ingredients listed in declining order of their initial weight before processing, except water, which can be estimated.
Other limits, such as an "all beef" product must be all beef, blah blah.

Pies are 25% and the sausages have to be 50% fat free meat. Hot dog frankfurts qualify as processed meats so must contain 30% min.
