Hey Kiddo,

My PC at home had a brain haemorrage so I've been in the cyber wilderness for a couple of days.

The article in Friday's paper just rehashed the ususal and covered McGraths reenactment.

I enjoy watching pretty much all sports but find it hard to take any of them seriously. =0)

Tease away, I'm big enough and ugly enough - well ugly enough anyway to handle it. I can't afford to be too precious seeing as [we] gave the world "The Crocodile Hunter"!!!!!!

LOL You also gave us Fosters which I am fond of not just because the can is so damn big but because it tastes pretty good. I hear that it is not as popular down under as Americans are led to believe. It may be just another foreign beer scam in which silly Americans are duped into thinking they are drinking exotic beers that are actually brewed here. God, I'm paranoid.

Why is a leading brand of Aussie beer called XXXX? Because it is too hard for Aussies to spell BEER.

He he.

Thats an old NZ joke...

Oh great!!!! Steve Irwin and Fosters, excuse me while I go and stick by head in the oven..=0) Well I have been told that US beer is pretty sad compared to ours, but not being a beer drinker (or much of a drinker of any sort - and not for lack of enthusiasm) can't really judge.

Because it's a Queensland beer, and they're pretty backward up there. Don't even have daylight saving, cause it fades the curtains!

You might want to be a bit careful incase that is interpreted as 'joking about death' which isn't supposed to be funny and warrants a civility warning.

Ooooookay, thanks for the warning. Boy that kinda robs me of one entire coping mechanism.

I was of course alluding to the fact that my oven is desperately in need of cleaning and that I had decided not to put it off a moment longer ;-) And if you believe that just keep an eye out for the pigs as they fly past your window.

Hope your move goes well tomorrow.

Today. Moved already. You have to watch your 'tomorrow' and 'today''s around here. Peoples being almost a day behind at all...

But yeah, moved already.
It isn't so bad.
Got my computer sussed and all
(the only one with the little rolly wheel on the mouse).
In the last comp lab I pretty much claimed the one with the biggest monitor, but they are all pretty good here.
I would be kind and let other people use it if they needed - it was also the only one with a CD drive.
I always thought arts and social science students got the worst computers (except music with the software they need and psychology with their SPSS) - but no, it is official, just look at the ones in the hostels.
Yucko.
Not that it matters particularly.
10 minute walk to the office anyways.
5 minute walk to the z centre in the library
(ergonomic keyboards)
woo hoo
the joys of living on campus :-)

Yeah. I quite like black humour myself.
Hey, if you ever fancy coming to NZ I'm sure my oven could use a bit of a clean too ;-)

Hi Kiddo,

Glad to hear you're settled in okay. It's all a bit like when I got KO'd playing rugby. Apparently the coach pulled me up by the front of the jumper and asked me what day it was. My reply "Today". His response "Good enough for me, get back in the game son." Or at least so my best mate told me a couple of days later.

Oh, talking about computers, I'm sitting here at my desk staring at an old P3 running Win'98 that does actually have a CD drive but it works only when it feels like it! =0) I don't even have a scroll mouse.

You're not anitsocial either just by-the-by. You probably just like things they way you like them - simple as that. I've been at this company for 18 years and never been to a Christmas party or drinks after work, etc, etc. The social highlight of my week is doing the grocery shopping on a Friday night. I actually only learned how to talk to people in the last 2 years and still have trouble with people I don't really know. Probably only speak to my parents every couple of months, my sisters never and I've maybe three real friends.

Not only have I never been out of the country, I've never been to uni either! Left high school in 1982 and did a Diploma of Project Management in 2003 and that it the only course I've ever managed to complete (long history of self sabotage and self doubt).

Take care kiddo.

P.S: Who knows maybe someday I will come over to clean your oven ;-)

Yeah. I like my friends okay, but my flatmates aren't my friends, they are my flatmates. I wouldn't want to flat with my friends anyway, because then they wouldn't be my friends, they would be my flatmates. If ya follow...

Yeah. Fond of the old grocery shop myself ;-)

Yup, okay. Tell you what, you can even crash in the lounge for a couple of weeks. I am sure my flatmates won't mind (and too bad if they do!)

Ah, yeah I'm pretty sure I follow. Think I'm kinda the same. except that I couldn't live with strangers either. Well that's up to my usual level of nonsensicality (suspect I've just committed [another] crime against language) =0)

Mostly because I am anitsocial. Plus the majority are bad enough sober. Drunk would be too much to bear. Never been into the getting drunk thing. Guess I'm just not into large groups. More a one-on-one or one-on-none kind guy.

Mate, being up near Oxford St you have no idea of the wildlife I encounter on a daily basis. I've become somewhat of an expert in 'croc' identification, and can often be heard in meetings saying "That's a croc of ...."

Now now, remember the "do unto others" crap. I'm almost sure it doesn't say "do unto others what they're more than likely gonna do unto you." But I have been known to be wrong.

So what is it that you're not doing at uni????

Yeah, living arrangements are hard...

Yeah, I hear ya. You are not a typical Aussie then :-)

:-) great.

Hmm. I sorta have that. Always have to work in the end, though. Always in the end. Postponment only makes it harder later.

Yeah I think you might be wrong, thats the version I remember. I was sorta joking. But I could check with them first if you would feel better.

I'm not doing my masters in philosophy.
I am also not tutoring.
But I will be come March.
And I will have finished come August ;-)

Hmmmm,

If I went out and bought a mouse I'd have the techno-nazis on my back too - for a non authorised installation. Worse that school isn't it? Just gotta love large multinationals.

Somehow I think it's more me than the living arrangements that's the problem. Have enough trouble just living with myself ;-)

Yeah, gotta say say no-one has ever accused me of being either typical or normal. Plenty of other things, but never typical or normal :-) But my dog loves me (I think) and my current objective is to become even half as good a person as she thinks I am.

Duh, while I remember. I saw Toph's post to you on another board/thread and it was really, really nice.

Gee, and to think I thought you were being deadly serious about the slepping in the lounge thing ;-). Honestly, it'd creep me out severely. Is that too weird? Last time I saw Katie's mum, Michelle, (another rescue mission) just sleeping in the guest room for a few days freaked me out, and I've known her and her son for 22 years (I suddenly feel very, very old) and love them both dearly! BTW, she was your age when we met.

Philosophy huh....I'm shocked =0), never would have guessed it from your other thought provoking posts.

My intuition told me instantly that you're someone worth taking a long time to get to know, and I'm learning not to doubt it as it just gets mne into (more) trouble :-). Who knows, If I ever get the courage to bungee down at Nevis I might be able to cajole ya into being my witness.

Don't know if you've read them but someone with your love of language and intelectual flexibility and acuity would probably love Jasper Fforde's series of Thursday Next adventures.

Anyway, should probably go and pretend to do some work.

I doubt they would notice about the mouse. You could even take it home with you. It isn't exactly a hardware installation... Still, maybe they'll figure it is for non-work related activities???

I have trouble living with people and trouble living without people. When I am living by myself I get lonely. But I don't realise it is lonliness. I think it is a major depressive episode :-( When I am living with others I have a tendancy to complain a little (not to their faces) and wish they would all go out and leave me alone. I am trying to realise that I am better off with people and that they are allowed to come and go. And I am allowed to do things that might let them know I am alive (such as listening to music at a reasonable volume occasionally) etc. And using the kitchen when they are around. And talking to them occasionally just to be social. It is hard for me. But it is good for me. Maybe I just like to grumble ;-)

> Yeah, gotta say say no-one has ever accused me of being either typical or normal.

Great! You wouldn't want to be either typical or normal anyway, would you?? I wouldn't :-)

> my current objective is to become even half as good a person as she thinks I am.

Hmmm, what sort of work do I do? Now there's a good question. Just give me half a mo while I run upstairs and get someone from Public Affairs to craft an appropriately corporate answer :-)

No seriously, do you want the appearance or the reality? To all intents and appearances and according to my job title I am a Project Lead. Which basically means I manage the odd project or three. I actually work in the Program Office looking after methodology and project manager education, blah, blah, blah. Ha dto move here because re-engineeering good people out of jobs just to achieve some bottom-line target, caused me all sorts of problems. I've actually spent the last couple of days writing something to explain (in my own warped way) to my colleagues why simply achieving the project objective doesn't mean you've delivered a quality outcome or customer satisfaction.

The reality? The reality is I have no bloody idea what I really do. I seem to be a professional gap plugger, hole filler, cleaner up afterer, sounding board and for a couple of my friends here a mental and emotional saftey valve and general support person.

I remember a couple of years ago now rollling out of bed one morning and straight into the abyss and coming into to work and demanding that my boss explain we he continued to pay me for turning up! To his very great credit he didn't send for one of those nice white jackets with the wrap-around sleeves that buckle at the back. Mind you I think he's probably regretted it every day since :-)

Pretty much any job you can't think of the right person to give it to - give it to Damos. Boy bet you're glad I gave you the short answer =0)

> Goodie - I am not alone there then. Bummer for you, of course.

No you're definitely not alone on that one kiddo - sadly. I don't let it bum me out, it's just the way I am simple and complex as that. Hey maybe we should start a club, we'd need a name of course. Hmmm, how 'bout The Club Where Nobody Comes? Or does that imply a group for people with a rather different problem?? (Apologies if the unintended rudeness offends)

> It would probaly reduce the chances of your wanting to meet 'special' people like me! He!

Doubt it. Take people as I find them and lately I've found that just trusting my intuition and the universe has led to just the right people turning up at just the right time. If you've read the "Celestine Prophecy" by "James Redfield" you'll know what I mean. He calls it synchonicity. Being cynical by nature I was " yeah, yeah, sure, sure, good story guess it sells a lot of books." But now actually having seen it manifest - I can't not believe it. BTW I'm really glad I met you, but it probably signifies a major slippage in your standards though ;-)

At the very least. She is so knowing and is such a good listener. She's never judgemental (except when her dinner is late) and always knows how to ease your troubles

> Heh heh. Dog slobber... mmm.

Give me a slobbering dog over a slobbering person any day....

Be thankful I didn't send you all the dog hair :-) I saw a cushion cover the other day that said, "Any outfit with out dog hair is incomplete." :-)

> LOL! That cracked me up!

Glad you liked it! Can't take the credit for it though, just can't remember where I heard it.

Most unlike me!!!!!

Had to do the same thing the first time I saw him LOL.

> Oh no. Not sleeping in the lounge. People might walk in and watch you sleeping. Yuk.

LOL, that is exactly what was I was thing about. Ew Ick Brrh.

> I'll have a go at the first one when I get the chance to take up novels again... The very idea of a novel is somewhat novel.

I'm sure you'll love 'em. Bet a novel would be novel after mountains of papers, reseach, etc.

Love nothing better than to loose myself (whoever that is) in a good book or favorite CD. I could only describe my choice of books and CDs as a classic case of ecleccentricity.

Hope you have a great day

Oh yeah and big sloppy dogs kiss from Sarah the spotted dog.
