Amusing Site

Not wildly funny but amusing still & more real than most out there:

In the picture of the friends drinking beer and plotting revenge, exactly what is being snipped off by the scissors?

Didn't really know if others would enjoy this site. You might want to check out some of the otheranimations & humour at http://www.millan.net/funp/index.html (Moppo FunPages). I'm signed up for regular updates when they're added.

That stray cat one sounds like my black girl cat who definitely 'adopted' me. I saw this black shape playing in the grass from my bedroom window at night but never in the day time. One evening coming home, this black kitty comes racing to greet me by my front door. She was the unbelievablist (is that a word?) sweetest, friendliest cat I ever met. I stroked her, played with her a bit & then went inside.

All night, she sat under my window meowing sadly - literally all night. Next morning, she was camped out on my back deck. My marriage was breaking up then & my husband grumply said "don't let her in or feed her or give her water even!" but she wouldn't leave. I felt so bad for her that on the 3rd day, I let her in. After all, he kept a stray cat HE liked. Why couldn't I?

The stress of the marriage break up & my youngest son being hospitalized for deep suicidal thoughts broke my immune system & I developed pneumonia. It was viral so I had to tough it out & I had no help or sympathy from HIM. But my faithful new kitty stayed by my side in bed almost continuously for a month. She laid down next to me through all the fevered, sleepless nights & through the day as well. As you can imagine, I love her very much. I didn't know how old she was when I got her, but I think she's very old now as her black fur is now sprinkled with white, specially round her eyes. I've had her for almost 6 years now & if anything, she's even more devoted to me. She's my special old little 'baby'. Thought you might enjoy the story, Wendy.

What a beautiful thing how she found you when you needed her most.

Lucky cat and lucky IsoM.

A dog just isn't a cat & vice versa alright. I used to have a German shepherd & a kitty too, when I was in my early twenties. I moved back to my parents when I became broke, & my Mom didn't want animals in the house. It broke my heart to have my pets outside, but I spent a lot of time outside with them too. At night, my dog would sleep curled up under a tree with my kitty curled up cuddled next to her. And without fail, every morning when my dog woke up, she'd hold my poor hapless cat's tail in her mouth (quite gently) & run through the yard dragging my cat in the dew, thoroughly wetting him. I wondered why my cat was wet in the mornings until I finally caught my dog at it. I couldn't figure out why the cat got damp outside but my dog, right next to him, never did. I put an end to that quickly. Was it play or my dog's attempt to wake a sleepy cat?

My neighbours have a dog who looks almost exactly like mine did. I've played with her from the time they brought her home as a new pup so she regards me as one of the family. I so love her too. But you can't snuggle with a big dog like you can a cat. And burying your face in their fur never smells as good as a nice clean cat. Plus a cat's fur is so soft. I read that cats tend to weigh about the same as a young baby & have the same body feel. Maybe that's part of their appeal. But I loved going for long walks with my dog & exploring nooks & crannies in wild places with her. And the high level of play & running with a dog is something you can't do with a cat.

Thanks so much for your sweet postings back, Alii. ^_^

using identical strategies as yours. Cats must all go to the same Weaseling Your Way Into Human Hearts school.

The constant meowing used to drive me nuts. At first, after I fed her a few times, the meowing only got worse and I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. But gradually, as she became securely mine, with daily meals and petting, she stopped the crying. I still draw the line at letting her in the house though. I just don't want housepets anymore (after having 5 at one point). So she sleeps outside on my doormat, which is actually as close as she can be to me without being inside. She's so sweet.

If you had 5 inside pets at one time, do you mind me asking why you won't let her in? It's strange how badly pets crave their human's attention, making them their focus.

My black girl didn't have a bothersome meow, just very sad sounding. She has the most expressive voice of all the cats I've ever had. If you walk into the room where she's sleeping, she'll lift her head & meow in a questioning way. If I'm in the bathroom, she has a plaintive one asking to be let in. There's different ones for many different things she asks. I can honestly tell more from her meows what she's saying than I ever could from my sons' cries when they were small. Some Mom I was, hey?

I have a friend that used to rescue cats & sometimes smaller dogs, but she's too old for it now. She said there are large neon signs over certain houses that only cats can see that read "Sucker Lives Here".

Ok, ok, my turn now

We (my wife and I) have 2 cats, who happen to hate each other. The older, Dusty, we got from a litter as a kitten. My wife spoiled "her baby" terribly. She was an indoor-outdoor kitty at the time. When she was about 2 years old, another cat in the neighborhood started beating her up. With considerable effort, I managed to catch the tormentor, who seemed to be an outside-only stray, with the intent of taking it to the humane society (SPCA for those of you outside USA). Well, after only a couple of hours of being caught, and while hiding behind a bunch of "stuff" in our back patio, I mustered up the courage to reach into the stuff and pet the stranger. He hopped right out, purring. He was about 1 year old, solid black, and absolutely the most affectionate cat I ever met. Smart too: He lived by his wits for a long time. Since he was a stray, we had to teach him to play. He had never seen things like string before (boring) or rabbit fur toy mice (really fun).

Well, we couldn't take this charmer to the HS, so we kept him. Since he and our other cat *HATED* each other, I built a door out of 2x4s and chicken wire and installed it in the center of our house. Dusty, our older cat, got the bedrooms and bathroms and InkSpot, the new kitty, got the kitchen, living room, and dining room. After a few years, we left the door open most of the time while at home. Now we leave the door open most all the time except when on travel away from home.

Dusty and InkSpot are exclusively indoor cats now and they still hate each other. Actually, Dusty just hates InkSpot, but he says that he'll finish any fight she wants to start. And he does, even though he's not nearly as tough as he thinks anymore.

I just can't tolerate the fleas, shedding, clawing of furniture, and stinky cat box. Indoor pets are nice, but I don't have the energy for the upkeep. At this point in my life I want my home to be nice for me, not for pets.

Your kitty sounds lovely.

I understand & don't criticize you for your decision, but none of my cats have fleas - not one. I won't tolerate them scratching at anything but their scratching posts & scratching bag (an old heavy twine macrame bag that my boy cat loves). No stinky cat box - I clean it scrupulously twice a day at least (keep it cleaner than the rest of my house but then the rest of my house wouldn't stink if I don't clean it). But yes, the shedding. I don't know how they can lose so much hair & still have it covering them. I know I'd be bald at that rate!
