That stray cat one sounds like my black girl cat who definitely 'adopted' me. I saw this black shape playing in the grass from my bedroom window at night but never in the day time. One evening coming home, this black kitty comes racing to greet me by my front door. She was the unbelievablist (is that a word?) sweetest, friendliest cat I ever met. I stroked her, played with her a bit & then went inside.
All night, she sat under my window meowing sadly - literally all night. Next morning, she was camped out on my back deck. My marriage was breaking up then & my husband grumply said "don't let her in or feed her or give her water even!" but she wouldn't leave. I felt so bad for her that on the 3rd day, I let her in. After all, he kept a stray cat HE liked. Why couldn't I?
The stress of the marriage break up & my youngest son being hospitalized for deep suicidal thoughts broke my immune system & I developed pneumonia. It was viral so I had to tough it out & I had no help or sympathy from HIM. But my faithful new kitty stayed by my side in bed almost continuously for a month. She laid down next to me through all the fevered, sleepless nights & through the day as well. As you can imagine, I love her very much. I didn't know how old she was when I got her, but I think she's very old now as her black fur is now sprinkled with white, specially round her eyes. I've had her for almost 6 years now & if anything, she's even more devoted to me. She's my special old little 'baby'. Thought you might enjoy the story, Wendy.
