Anyone else find Bat out of Hell theraputic???

I get to the point where everything is irrelevant...my body is numb and I don't want to be here anymore.....

What is it about the fat little man who belts out these songs that makes me feel energized again?? I listen from beginning to end at high decibels..sing along and play air-piano until I feel strong again. I'm not a big rock and roll fan...and this cd gets air-play only when the moment arises when I don't feel I can take it anymore..

Anyone else have a similar experience?????

Actually, he's not so little--or so fat anymore. He was in an excellent movie starring William H. Macy and Laura Dern about anti-Semitism in the '50s after the war (can't remember the title--aargh!). He's a very good actor.

> Anyone else have a similar experience?????

I'm wondering if it's nostalgia you're experiencing. Sometimes we associate these songs with particularly good times of our lives.

I am not a big Heart fan--at least I haven't been since I was a teen (I'll be 40 in October!), but I've been cranking their Greatest Hits CD lately--that "Magic Man" is an excellent song, and it brings back those cool days for me.

"Paradise by the Dashboard Light" is certainly a rock anthem (as opposed to a classic). There's no reason really to wonder why it kicks ass for you, know what I mean?

with cheese--preferably mozzerella.

With your hands, mix a pound of ground beef with Lipton onion soup mix, one egg, a little catsup, and salt and pepper. Hollow it out in the center (not through the top, but through the end), fill it with shredded cheese, and use the stuff you hollowed out to put the other end back on the loaf. Bake it at 350 until it's bubbly and yummy. Voila!,

The movie is called "Focus", I think, and I agree...it was a GREAT movie...I still remember him as "Eddie" in the Rocky Horror Picture Show..this is how I think of Meatloaf..lol...those times.....

The odd thing is, I never really listened to this kind of music growing up..I mean, I heard the songs on the radio now and again, but was never really into "rock"...it wasn't until my 20s that I purchased the album and really listened to it all..and this is how I hear it..from the beginning to the end....it seems so brilliant right through..(you know how some albums, you like 2 or 3 songs????)

> I'm wondering if it's nostalgia you're experiencing. Sometimes we associate these songs with particularly good times of our lives.

Every song seems to kick ass for me...it goes from one thing to another...every emotion...maybe this is why it works for me...brings it all out and gives me the energy I lack???

Yes, maybe the music will give you back the energy you need. It certainly can't hurt you! (Unless you're listening to Korn.)

... of all things "Spice World," starring the eponymous Spice Girls.

He plays their bus driver - very funny. Hey, rent it! Kinda harmless, for-the-whole-family entertainment, with some exceptionally humorous moments, like when the Spice Girls make Meatloaf stop their tour bus so they can pee by the side of the road, and a spaceship lands, and they have a conversation with space-people who ask for tickets to their show... Little subtitles running along the bottom of the screen when the martians speak - QUITE amusing.

Obviously, I have a little girl who once adored the Spice Girls. Now I've turned her onto Sheryl Crow (quiet, Beardy!), and I can't get my CDs back!

best to all you rockers and nostalgia-seekers,

Wendy

I'm always on the lookout for non-horrible video rentals. Need something to tide me over til Sex & the City Season 2 Vol 2 returns to the shelf.

I saw her on the cover of some girlie magazine--the title was fit and something-or-another at 40. She really does look good for being older than I am!

And so I found something nice to say about her, just for you, Wendy.

Tabby,

Definitely! Spice World rocks! I am re-running the Sopranos right now, getting ready for season 4 (the 15th is the first new episode, and the ex-boyfriend, whom I turned into a Sopranos freak, will probably be taping it, so I'll borrow from him). We recently punted the cable box, it's too expensive, and besides, THIS is the screen I want to be looking at, not the boob tube. So we've been renting movies a lot lately. I am watching videos of all the movies I should have seen but never did (pretty bad for a former filmmaking major!). So tonight it was "Forrest Gump."

BTW, am enjoying your little fling with Ted, your posts are quite funny. (I have a father abandonment thing, too, so just thought I'd say: hi to a kindred spirit.)

I have been eyeing the Sex and the City videos in the store. I've seen several episodes, and I enjoyed them. So maybe that'll be the next rental...

best,

Wendy

Have never watched that. That's on cable right? I don't have cable--too much of a TV addict already, plus too cheap.

Yeah, it's been fun, but seems like it's winding down. We're back to comparing dysfunctional childhoods as usual.

>(I have a father abandonment thing, too, so just thought I'd say: hi to a kindred spirit.)

Too bad for you. Amazing how it messes up your love life. I only spent about 30 years chasing unavailable men, hoping to win them over :-( Think I've finally made some progress on my patterns. I don't get hooked so easily anymore. But... the "available" men have yet to become really appealing, so my love life is in limbo.

I had never seen it on TV. It's cute, great characters, and I like the clothes and sets a lot. But I wouldn't recommend watching entire discs at one sitting like I've been doing. It's like reading a novel where somebody's having sex every 3 pages (those _Clan of the Cave Bear_ books come to mind). I get vicariously exhausted.
