getting rid of a pdoc/ he is fighting to keep me

Posted by LiLi80 on March 24, 2002, at 2:19:16

Ok I want out of this guys care. he is incompetent, and always has to ask me what he prescribed, i havent been diagnosed, he gives meds, and i say they arent working and he says well lets wait another month, he doesnt return his phone calls until a week later, he no pager, and he said he isnt that kinda of doctor, I think he is , he is a pdoc right? what an idiot. Ok I called him ans asked him to send me my records, he refused, tho i legally have a right to them, he found a loop whole where i have to go and discuss the records with him in session, 15 min sessions! I dont want to go to him again, I am thinking of getting a lawyer and just having them scare him for me. So i get my records and I dont have to deal with him anymore.

hI
You DO have rights to your med records you just have to sign something no need for a lawyer..change to a new doc ..You don't even have to ask the doc the nurse/receptionist will sort it out or advise you...

Get your new pdoc to request the records- I am not an MD but I request clients records' fairly frequently and all it takes is a signed release from the client and a cover letter from me!! If you want to be really official you can even have your signature notarized, but that usually isn't necessary.

I had a similar experience. Everyone told me that I didn't have to face him again, once I had made the decision to change pdocs. But he continued pushing me. Finally, after discussing it with my therapist, I decided to face him and I told him EXACTLY why I was changing docs. Exactly what I disagreed with. And, truly, I felt a little better afterwards, b/c I hadn't backed down. This from a woman who avoids confrontation at every angle. I'm terrified of standing up to 'authority figures', even ones who shouldn't have any authority! But I did it...

And now I have a pdoc who seems to know what he's doing. And who returns my pages quite promptly. It's like night and day.

Hope you can get this straightened out. You shouldn't have to put up with an incompetent pdoc. It's not like they aren't paid enough!! (no offense Dr. Bob)

I'm another non-US person, but isnt it an option to start seeing a new pdoc without having your old records first, like Penny seems to have done?

Of course, you should still get to see the old ones, and I hope someone legal can help you get them out of him, but it would be a shame for you to be delaying getting started with a better pdoc because of this records carry-on.

If he's a member of some sort of professional organisation, you could also try complaining about him to them, if you want to. He sounds hopeless- hope you get a better one soon.
