Skype and privacy for therapy

Posted by winsome on July 14, 2013, at 8:15:44

Has anyone had a concern about privacy when using Skype for therapy? My therapist has suggested use of Skype for some therapy sessions. I would be doing this at home and worry about being able to talk freely. Our home is not soundproof. If my husband is at home when I Skype, I'm afraid I will need to be careful about what I say--I won't be as free to easily say "anything."

This raises a question for me about the quality of the therapy.

How do others deal with this?

yes, i have issues of privacy where i am. mostly because it isn't soundproof, as you say, and because sometimes i want to / need to process things (or sometimes just vent) which wouldn't be so useful for people around me to hear...

one option would be to take it elsewhere... sometimes public can be most private. or if not private, exactly, anonymous. that can still be tricky, though...

how is your typing?

i have 'chatted' to friends via skype where mostly we were typing messages to each other. because i couldn't speak freely. that actually worked okay. but i type as fast as i think (or faster sometimes, i swears).
