Not sure I know quite what you are asking phillipa?

Excess water I guess might cause the opposite of constipation if the kidneys couldn't process the water quickly enough.

Am I missing the point here?

And that would be me. Thanks Phillipa.

I posted on PB that I was FOS & got a short response about the very dangerousness of too much water ... so I was wondering ... who warned me ? and how much is too much ? or does another know please?

I'm going through a really terrible time right now, and you've been my best friends; always there for me when I needed you.

thanks, 5f

Water intoxication occurs when large amounts of water are taken in too quickly. Depending on existing electrolyte balance, as little as 2 litres (1/2 gallon), taken in one sitting, can be fatal. It's not the daily dose (a healthy person can process 15 litres/4 gallons per day), it's the rate of intake that matters. Water intake should not exceed one litre/quart per hour.

Thanks Lar it was for Five Fires. I thought it would be the electrolytes too. Hence why they use golytly. Has all the electrolytes and pulls water into the intestine. Love Phillipa

i read somewhere that a woman died when she took part in a silly competition for a radio station called "a wee for a Wii" meaning that the person who drank the most water won the latest gaming machine. It was in California or something. How come I know more about American news that you US folks? Anyway all the people at the radio station were fired straight away.

Some marathon runners have died too apparently from drinking too much water/too quickly.

I try to listen to my body. Nothing in extreme. Everything in moderation.

The old rule of thumb is to drink at least 8 eight-ounce glasses of water spaced evenly throughout each day. However, it's hard to tell where that rule originated. A landmark study by the National Academy of Science in 2004 set recommendations for women's bodies at approximately 91 ounces of total water (from all foods and beverages) and approximately 125 ounces for men daily. That sounds like a lot of water, doesn't it? Well, it's not that much when you consider that about 20% of our water intake comes from food. Of course, it's always good to have some water handy to ensure proper hydration. Let your thirst be your guide.

Also remember that physically active people and people that live in warmer climates should drink more water than the average person to stay properly hydrated and operating at peak performance. There is also some evidence to suggest that a moderate increase in water intake can decrease the risks of some cancers, heart disease and other illnesses in certain people. However, be sure to ask your doctor about your own personal/family history and risk factors. Water is indeed good for everybody and every body.
