Has anyone tried Biofeedback?

Posted by MM on January 31, 2005, at 23:41:11

Anyone have experience with it? Good or bad? Any info on it? I've heard/read that it can really help with anxiety and depression so I'm curious. Thanks.

Meg

Yes, Meg, I'm doing biofeedback once a week for an hour and I find it not only useful but empowering too. I do an alpha-theta session that is training my mind to recognize a calmer, yet alert, state of well-being. I can access this state of mind easily for a day or so, then gradually lose touch with it. The next week's session brings me back to that awareness and the cycle repeats itself. As the weeks go on though I can rediscover this state more and more easily. I think with more discipline (i.e. regular medition to be in this calm and alert state more often) I will have a powerful tool to moderate the extremes of mood. Maybe worth a shot?

what kind of biofeedback do you use? could you do

joebob,

I do it for 20 bucks a session with a sliding-scale psychologist who has an impressive technological set-up which I think would cost a pretty penny to buy for oneself. There are "home" versions, but I know nothing about their efficacy or reliability.
