yea temazepam is a good sleep aid, but there is seconal... barbituate, and it is vary strong to make you sleep but doctor's don't usually like to write presciption because obbiously it got a bad rep for abuse, and dependnce than benzos

but still insomnia that is resistant, usally a barituarte will help

never mind...forget the barbiturate it's too complicated for long term use

there's Prosom and Dalmane.....those are some classic benzos for insomnia or an older AP....

very few docs will Rx for something like Seconal. I read this one young-ish woman's blog where she was on phenobarbital elixir at night for sedation. Weird, huh?

Was it you who had the weight response to remeron?

Anyhow, I've been doing well on the following combination (for sleep)

remeron 1mg
magnesium 25-50mg
melatonin 1mg time release
lorazepam 0.25mg

All of these hit different targets for sleep.

Also, sometimes I find that DHA helps me sleep. Its not a sleep med, but it will slow down racing thoughts if this is what is keeping you awake.

I would say that this combo has helped me (more or less) defeat a decade of chronic insomnia.

Thank you, i have not been on this one. i need to call pdoc. but i'll mention this as an option.

i'm having some pretty severe symptoms. i'm guessing due to lack of sleep. i know it impairs cognitive fucntion.
i have Extreme restlessness (almost like RLS in my whole body and especially in my head!).

Thank you!

they do still prescribe seconal, there was a poster here that said they got prescribed it for a short period and said it is stronger than benzos, the benzos make it feel like natural sleep induction when you take, i was on xanax and restoril they slow helped me fall asleep, seconal is a heavy sleep med.......it just puts you to sleep....for insomnia phenobarbital is not a good choice because it lasts for a VARY long time, you would wake up the next say sedated for around 12 hours, it is good for keeping you asleep but it lasts too long....

pheno is not really euphoric like seconal, but it will get you to sleep....just ... it lasts to the next day feel sedated most of the day

still there's Prosom and Dalmane which are good for sleep, there older benzo's

ually prescibe seconal for insomnia in difficult sleep cases, and it depends on the doctor too....

Hey
thanks for letting me know.
my depression has sort of set up camp. and i know that right now im battling suicidal intrusive thoughts so secconal would be one i would immediately want to (and could) harm myself with. So not good idea.

good to know about phenobarbital..

well.. its 5:00 am Christmas Eve... i've got a Very Long 48hours coming up.
i need to get off computer to see if i can wind down to get a couple hours shut eye..
...or not...

Thanks rjlockhart37.

Why don't you take the perphenazine you already have? I would say 8mg a hour before bed would keep you asleep for most of the night and not make tired in morning if you don't take more. It might help your other symptoms like paranoia too.

If that is out of the question how about trazadone?

ive only taken 2mg maybe 4mg for a bit. i have been calling pdoc finally found out till jan 6th. i've never taken perphenazine at 8mg. i'm sure it would be ok but i'd rather be sure its ok with mix of other meds.
but i will Definately mention this.

i'm feeling little low right now, but not bad. HOwever, today i was as low as i can get. couldnt' hardly move around, never got dressed, not hungry and slept a Lot.

Low dose doxepin. 10 mg capsule is generic and cheap. Silenor (brand name doxepin, forgot if dose is 2 or 3 mg) is also used, but really expensive. You can also use liquid doxepin, which is fairly cheap, to titrate a small dose.

Look for sleep meds that don't mess with sleep architecture, and enhance slow wave. Doxepin increased my delta waves (sleep study).

Good luck. Not having good sleep is awful. You feel like a zombie.

Many with HPA axis dysfunction have central sleep apnea which can only be diagnosed with a sleep study. It took a month or two using a CPAP before I noticed improvement.

Years and years of sleep meds kept me asleep, but I was still very fatigued during the day. I also saw improvement in energy levels, especially in the daytime, after doing a course of rTMS. Perked my left prefrontal cortex right up.
