Valium, kolonopin comparison

Posted by former poster on October 4, 2013, at 22:33:07

I posted about having severe anxiety about my operation and my Dr took me off of clonazepam and put me on 40mg/ day of diazepam.
Valium worked but not quite so well..
Dr. took me off diazepam and put me back on a high dose of clonazepam 6mg /day. Anxiety is improved. I feeel I can go through with the operation now.

Here is what I noticed:
Valium increased my sex drive, made me more sociable but left me feeling as is I had taken an illegal drug. Periodic feelings of euphoria as if I had drank a lot of alcohol. Some slurred speech, and I said a few things off the top of my head that I would expect a person who had been drinking to say. Almost seems like diazepam blocks anxiety with euphoria. I have had almost no illegal drugs in my life, so I don't really know. But Valium felt the way I would expect a recreational drug to feel.

Clonazepam makes me sane, in control, able to focus and fuction. The downside is... I believe it causes some sexual disfunction and worse yet, tinnitus. Since going back on the klonz, I can't understand a word my teenage daughter says. Wonder if I am doing irreversible damage to my hearing?

Thanks all who read my posts.. Hope they are not too boring?

First I'm glad you feel you can now go through your operation.

40mg of valium is quite a high dose so this most likely is why you felt high. Lower doses like 5mg Tid just relaxes.

Since Klonopin is a stronger med to me Could this be why you feel like you do? How long till the operation? After it you can reduce the dose. I haven't heard of tinnitus on klonopin? But all side effects are possible. And no your posts are not boring at all. Those who post here hope to help and support others. Phillipa

Thanks for the rapid post Phillipa. Do you sit on your laptop computer? Lol. I remember back in the 70's and being on Valium 2mg 3 times daily and it did wonders for me. It made me comfortable, sociable and the world a kind and friendly place. What is so bad about having a sociability drug? Cultures that don't have alcohol have herbs. Example: Kava kava in the South Pacific.
I don't think 2mg of valium would do much at all for me now except maybe keep me from unraveling.

I think the difference I notice is the clonazepam has controlled the obsessing more than the diazepam. Possibly because clon. has more potent anti-seizure effects? I seem to have more control over my thoughts. At this point, dying is not such a bad thing. I have so much chronic pain, I can't do most of the things I used to. There is little pleasure in my life. I also have mafans disorder, which is why I'm getting the operation. I don't want to die, because my kids need me. I have had enough pain, rejection, stigma, lonliness, sorrow, legal problems. I treated people good in my life. Except when I was treated bad. I turned my cheek too many times and decided it was a bad habit. I worked hard for decades and have little to show except a worn out body. People and government are corrupted and I have lost many civil rights. Look at the difference between the 70's and today! Its like we live on a military base that spans from the Atlantic to the Pacific. I don't feel like we are a free country. I just don't care anymore. But I do pray all the opressed and those suffering from depression, schizophrenia, mood disorders recover, get well and treated fairly without stigma..

Ramble ramble..... sorry, clonazepam talking

Phillipa.. Thank you for saying my posts are not boring. I really want to help people on this forum.

My operation is this Monday. Phillipa, you are a nurse. Have you had much experience with marfan patients or surgeons?

Klonopin is high potency. 1mgs/Klonopin= (roughly) 20mgs/Valium.

But they're different drugs. Valium is more euphoric, has muscle relaxing properties. Klonopin can be anti-manic, mood stabilizing, strong anti-convulsant (originally used in epilepsy); can cause depression.

Ya I was going around feeling quite euphoric. I could have really enjoyed it if I didn't have the dread anxiety of this operation on Monday. Soon as I started feeling free of my worries from the valium, the operation dread hit me and I was up and down like bipolar. Klonopin seems to keep me stable and not panic.

Hi. Can u try a smaller dose of k? Would that stop the ear ringing? I really have been helped by k, helps stop racing thoughts, makes me more social, and doesn't make me depressed. I am on a small maintenance dose. Good luck to u : )

I know this sounds perfectly random, but there's an over-the-counter supplement for ear issues...Lipo-Flavonoid Plus or something like that...my dad takes it.

Its just a bunch of antioxidants. Couldn't hurt.

>>Which condition are the surgeons treating?<<

Dialated aortic root, dialated aorta, (aortic valve replacement likely).

The surgery was postponed for a few weeks.
