Any bodybuilders on MAOIs?

Is anyone aware of any fat burners on the market that would safe to take with Nardil? I used to take Hydroxycut Hardcore but I'm sure that's out.

Well green tea inhibits COMT, and can increase metabolism...in theory comt inhibitors would be dangerous, but in reasonable amounts they're ok

sesamin doesn't have any direct contraindication, but it can cause lethargy, low libido, so people on psych drug might not be as able to tolerate changes there...

Nicotine probably has synergistic AD effect, and can be taken...

not sure about some of the more grey areas stuff, like dnp...

I guess stuff like w-3s that people should be taking anyway...

I looked at those ingredients in hydroxycut hardcore...seems like a BAD combination with MAOI. Hypertensive crisis potential or long term weirdness, especially with the caffiene and yohimbine.

You'd likely go into dopamine/NE overdrive. Suggest you stay away from the combo. Lots of stuff in that OTC mixture that haven't been tested with MAOIs.

I'd hate for you to have a stroke in the middle of a powerlift, which honestly, isn't too far fetched.

Seems like any fat burner would be BAD in combination with an MAOI. Not worth the risk IMHO.

I've been a body builder most of my life and have been on Nardil most of my life as well although I've switched to Parnate as the Nardil stopped working in 2002-2003.

I wouldn't recommend the fat burners on MAOI type A. Increase your cardio for fat burning effects.

Hey, right on, Glad to meet some bodybuilders on MAOI's...
Try CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), Its not like a energy booster.. I dont know how it works, some sweet oil that makes u loose fat. 2 capsuls 2x a day with a meal, after 1-2 months you should loose 5 lbs just from that.

Im on Parnate70mgs/day, I have no problem taking 2-300mgs of caffein before a workout and cardio. Thats only because I know my body is ok with caffein... some people cant, i imagine, hypes me up pretty good. for a while I brought my BP cuff with me to make sure. Squats/deadlifts is probably what worries people, it worried me, but my BP is always good. I'm just someone, I know some cant handel any caffein on MAOI's just sitting down. Once in a while I'll use some Modafinil to hype me up and keep me super concentrated and it really pushes the barriers.
But I've never had a hypertensive crisis ever on Nardil or Parnate. If I eat something wrong my heart rate just sky rockets but my BP stays safe. If you've ever had a hypertensive cr. I wouldnt use anything unless ur sure ur body is cool with it. I always feel nervous about telling people the rules I can break while on MAOI's cuz I think they might think im a bad example setting someone up for disaster. So I keep alot to myself..
Im in a spot right now where I have to get all the Nardil fat off me.
Let me know if you find anything else out there.

Actually I already am taking CLA. I would love to be able to take a fat burner. I used to take Hydroxycut Hardcore but I guess it's not worth the chance.

Does Modafinil really help you? Is it available OTC, or is it rx only? My pdoc probably won't prescribe it. Is it contraindicated with an MAOI?

Thanks...I've used CLA (it's present in dairy-milk products and works via some other enzyme breakdown of fat I believe). 1996 I think I spent several thousands in supplements as I was trying to win Bill Phillips Muscle Media Contest.

I've never had a MAOI crisis either on Nardil (not much of a drinker of beer/wine, but have had without a problem..but I love pizza-am a lactovegetarian-because of the inhumane slaughtering of animal..and I never wanted to test the cheese although fresh mozzarrela on frozen pizza is fine I guess..I can easily eat a whole pizza myself) that I took for about fifteen years, but went off in 2003-2004-reformulation(?) as it stopped working for me and I went on Cymbalta since then until this past Monday when I decided to go on Parnate. So far my appetite is down as Parnate is more related to amphetamine, structurally or chemically similar, and people tend to loose weight on Parnate more so by not being hungry.

I loved the weight gain with Nardil as I've always been ripped since my childhood (had abs at birth-my Dad was a genetic freak so to say and bigger than me) and the Nardil just helped me pack on the muscle mass...I usually weigh around 240lbs and am 5'10" with very little fat. I've used ever known body building supplement, but I think the best way to pack the weight no more than 5-10 sets per body part..only major mass building exercises with low-medium reps in explosive contraction (better Growth Hormone release) for the positives with slow decent for the negatives to recruit the most and bigger muscle fibers-fast twitch or red muscle fibers as compared to the slow-white muscle twitch fibers-endurance(look at sprinters legs compared to distance runners) with very high weight around 70%-90% of max (my personal bests have been; Bench-595lbs, Dead Lift-685lbs, Squat-775lbs) and two days of recovery prior off after each workout prior to entering the gym again except lighter cardio on off days like cycling and swimming and stretching-I can do splits, eating a high glycemic meal directly after workout to get the insulin spike effect to help muscle recovery..my body parts are so sore/broken down that it only amounts to training each body part every 1-1/2 weeks (like Mon Thur Sun Wed Sat Tue Fri repeat) although I get synergistic effects on other days...I always seem to have muscle bound body builders (definite juicers) coming up me and asking me what I'm taking (what type of anabolics), and I say nothing and they ask how I got the way I did and I explain my workout..body building for mass is not an endurance sport and I only spend 45 to 60 minutes at the most in the gym per workout as cortisol levels spike after 1 hour and has negative effects on muscle recuperation, and generally do my weight lifting in the evening as cortisol levels are lower and one gets the recovery benefits right after in the nights sleep release of growth hormone-GH and testosterone becomes the highest after sleep in early mornings.

My only problem with Nardil (will have to wait to see with Parnate)was the postural hypotension or dizziness with the heavy squats. Nardil has twice the postural hypotensive/anticholinergic effects compared to Parnate as well as twice the orgasmic dysfunction. More sedation with the Nardil as it effects GABA receptivity and I never had sleep problems on Nardil, but the with Parnate, I'm more wide awake as it doesn't effect GABA, but does effect Dopamine more..maybe a better sex drive as a result, but again I'll have to wait and see as I've only been on Parnate for five days.

Other than caffeine for lipogenic effects you might think about green tea, siberian ginsing or rodiola or the Chinese/Tibetian herb cordycep (catepillar fungus). I've used Modafinil in the past as well and also GHB both when it was available as a supplement and in RX form as Xyrem.

Don't currently take Provigil, but did in the past for excessive daytime sleepiness, but don't know if it helped with fat buring. Dr. Ivan Golberg says it's (psychostimulant) ok with MAOI. It's not OTC.

There's a supplement called Tight that doesn't have ephedrine in it but has Synephrine which is related to ephedrine but doesn't cause the nervousness as much, but still may not be good with an MAOI.

Nardil hasn't increased my appetite at all. Just my opinioin but I think part of it is a self fufilling prophecy where some hear you gain weight, and so they think they are going to anyway, and of course they start to eat more.

If I wasn't craving but just felt hungry more often, I would eat things (in addition to a regular balanced diet) like salad with no dressing, lots of vegetables, things like that, which have very little calories, and some negative calories, but because of the high fiber content they fill you up.

If you legitimately have an increase in appetite, eat how you normally would but throw in lots of fiberous veggies in between. They will help fill you up. You can also drink a lot of water. That helps fill you up as well.

There's ways around it if you find you're gaining weight. You just have to want it bad enough. Just my opinion!
