Cymbalta- can't pee, poop, or feel my clitoris

Posted by PhoenixGirl on July 23, 2006, at 18:49:28

What genious invented this? The saddest thing is, it's better than any of the other drugs I've tried. I have tried them all except for Nardil.

Can't pee? Well, Cymbalta was originally tested as an anti-incontinence drug, I believe. I have not found it to have that effect on me.

Can't poop? Have you just started taking it? I had this problem for the first week or so. After that, no problems.

Can't feel? I can't exactly empathize here, having some slightly different parts. I do find that in the 6-8 hours after I take my daily dose that things feel numb. I take the med when I wake up in the morning, so my wife and I know that first thing in the morning or at night will be fine for sex. I did have to add Wellbutrin to the Cymbalta after a few months though, and this got me through most of those side effects.

It's not perfect, but the medicine helps me a lot, so I deal with some side effects. If you've just started it, I bet you'll find the first two effects are transitory.

I'd call my pdoc in the morning. I've taken cymbalta and never had any problems like that I just couldn't cry, felt like my head would explode and twitched all over. Did you google the side effects of cymbalta? See what it says there too. Sorry. Love Phillipa

I've been taking cymbalta for about 3 months. I'm taking 90 mg. I take my dose at night, just before bed, along with 12.5 mg seroquel

Can't pee?
This side effect always was really disturbing when I upped my dosage. The most unpleasant feeling, really. It gradually gets better, but I still have hesitation most of the time. Only 10 seconds, but in public restrooms, I always start getting anxious- what if I can't pee?!?!?

Can't poop?
This sideeffect common to many ssri's. it will go away in a week or so. Drink lots of fluids (that helps with the peeing thing too :) and plenty of veggies, fruits and whole grains. Coffee might help too- kind of makes me have to pee, and gets my bowels moving too, now that I think about it!

Can't feel?
Hmm. Well, I haven't had this problem, exactly. (I'm a woman, by the way) but I have had a lot of problem getting the orgasm to happen. It's SO annoying when I'm ready for sex to be over, and I know I've been on the verge of climaxing for minutes, and it won't happen! Once I just gave up. but in general, the sex has been different. I still prefer sex on cymbalta to sex on major depression, though.

Cymbalta has been working pretty well for my depression. Try to stick with it despite these side effects. Sorry it's been a problem for you. No fun at all.

But Cymbalta isn't an SSRI .. not that it should make a difference. :-)

cymbalta blocks reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine. So the side effect profile is similar in many ways to pure ssri's. Constipation is definitely listed as a possible side effect in my patient information leaflet. Mercifully it's not permanent :o)
