Paxil-Effexor-Reboxetine-tianeptine-selegile

Posted by terrysquier on June 28, 2006, at 4:18:45

Well, guys, since this is the closest discussion to what I had questions about, I'm going to post here. Right now I have been taking 40 mg of Paxil for the past 5 years, this past January, I started taking 75 mg of Effexor. Over the past three or four months, I've been purchasing and researching products sold as nootropics and anti-age pills. Some I've stuck with. Others I didn't feel were worth the money or caused a slight adverse reaction.

So, as I said, I'm taking the 40 mg of Paxil, and 75 mg of Effexor once a day, and my settled-upon nootropic medications at this time are Piracetam, Vinpicotine, pyritol, acetyl-l-carnitine, phosphatydylserine, and Idebenone. I also take selegiline 5mg once a day.

I have ordered and will be adding to the mix two new antidepressant meds, albeit at lower dosages than recommended, kind of as an experiment to see if the combination will make a better improvement in my depression and motivaiton. I know Effexor was a very helpful drug to be added to Paxil. I've been on Paxil so long that I'm not so sure I'm getting the full benefit from it, so my intent is to eventually get off the Paxil, but as you know, Paxil takes a long, long time to get away from. If I have to try another SSRI, ie. Zoloft, Prozac, so be it.

I have no side effects from the Paxil and Effexor, except for loss of interest in sex and in sexual performance (or could it be age, too), and weight gain.

Occasionally, I'll order Ritalin and Modafinil over the internet, and those seem to help immensely with my motivation to get things done.

Anyway, there is my plan in a nutshell. I'd like to hear any comment that anyone would have about what I'm thinking of doing, and I also plan to keep back in touch with you all to let you know what happens, what works, what doesn't work, etc.

Terry

Hi Terry

I know nothing about Paxil, but I am interested in Idebenone. What's your experience?

I have been told (is it right?) that selegeline is really quite different to deprenyl. Why a citrate should be so much better than a hydrochloride is beyond me. There might be a study suggesting this?

Why take both Paxil and Effexor?

Tianeptine is the first AD that I have stuck with.

Thanks for writing. Effexor was added around the last of December of '05 because I had suffered a serious anxiety and depression episode. It seemed to clear the problem up in a couple days, so now I'm kind of afraid to stop taking it. In my personal opinion, I don't think the Paxil is doing its job anymore or I wouldn't have suffered the setback, but it's so hard to get off of that I've tried and given up so many times before. I'm kind of anxious to start on the Tianeptine and Reboxetine, low doses at first, to see if, number one, they improve my mood, and two whether I may finally be able to wean myself away from Paxil.

I'll let you know what I think of the Indebenone. I ordered it more as a mind enhancer and memory aid, but then, again, I already take pyritinol, piracetam, acetyl-l-carnitine, also. There's probably only so much my brain can be enhanced.

Piracetam/aniracetam/centrophenoxine didn't do much for my mood. I felt a bit cold and uncomfortable on them.

My psycdoc has me on 300mg of EffexorXR for anxiety and depression. It helped me adjust to getting off of very heavy mj use (though I desperately miss it). You could probably quit the Paxil since the Effexor can work on depression.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting off of Paxil since you're on Effexor. Ask your doctor to write you some smaller dose prescriptions so you can taper off slowly. They say that getting off of Paxil is the hardest, but I've done it before, and it was breeze compared to getting off of Effexor. Do it very slowly, since you've been on Paxil so long. It doesn't make much sense to be on both Paxil and Effexor, especially if you think it's not really doing anything.
