I think this Klonopin actually WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by spriggy on November 8, 2005, at 18:43:17

Why in the world didn't I try this faithfully sooner?

I took sporadically and convinced myself it didn't work.

I am amazed (and so is my husband) at the difference in me.

Remember that "ferris wheel" in my head that I felt like was spinning faster and faster and faster??? IT'S GONE!!!!

I don't freak out on my breathing, swallowing, etc.. I don't feel "sleepy or drugged" I just honestly feel NORMAL!!!

I'm only taking .5 mg's a day (broken up twice per day) but I swear that I feel sooo much better.

I know this stuff can cause depression in some people but for me, I've been feeling hopeful, relieved, and excited about life again.

I think I had such horrific anxiety (mind racing) that it caused me to be depressed. Now that it's under control, I can actually focus on LIVING (not just surviving!).

I pray this continues to help me and that I don't have to keep increasing the dosage. Right now, it's the only med I'm on (besides anti inflammatory's and occasional inhalor).

Thought I'd share.

I said the same thing when I first tried it. I love it because it quiets my very unquiet mind, especially in the evening when my anxiety had become the worst. I just took 1mg tonight; I started out on .5mg a day.

> I know this stuff can cause depression in some people but for me, I've been feeling hopeful, relieved, and excited about life again.

It hasn't cause me any add'l depression and I 've gone as high as 1.5 mg daily then backed down a bit because of its sedative properties.

I feel the same way. My anxiety was the cause of my depression!

I've tried so many drugs for generalized anxiety and social anxiety. The one that has worked best for me bar none is klonopin. The sedation (if any) wears off, but the anti anxiety benefits do not. At least not for me. I have tried recently to get off, see how I was doing, but all the old symptoms came back. I'm so thankful for this medicine. I do feel at times like I'm a little depressed and plan on adding something for that, but nothing has come close for anxiety. Before Klonopin I was house bound. Now I own my own company. Some people split doses, some once a day, usually at night. You have to play with the dose until you find the lowest dose that works for you. For me thats between 1 and 2mgs. Good luck!

Spriggy so glad it's helping you. Today I had a colonoscopy and received l00mg of Demerol and 4mg of versed. Needless to say my anxiety was gone for the first time. Fell asleep when I got home. Now have to find a new pdoc here and see what we can come up with. Good luck and don't be afraid if you do need more. Fondly, Phillipa

IMO, clonazepam is the best antianxiety drug there is.

That's great to hear, that you are doing better.

Klonopin is an absolutely wonderful drug. It gets a bad rap because of the people who use it for non-medicinal purposes, i.e. recreatonal purposes.

I have been on it for 8 years. It feels just as effective as the first day. I am taking less now than when I started, too.

Thanks for sharing good news!

Spriggy, I am so happy for you. What a relief to be rid of the horrible gnawing anxiety and fear. I take .5mg a day also although I'm supposed to be taking at least .75. (I'm as scare of it as you are)

It made such a difference. I did start at a higher dosage, went to a lower dosage and now take .5 each morning. The only thing it doesn't help with is the waking up scared in the morning.

Anyway, I'm so glad you found some relief.

Marsha

first let me say how happy i am that you have derived such wonderful benefits from the klonopin. it is ineed a very well liked and widely used.
i currently am on 6mg.mg Klonopin per day, putting me at 5.5mg higher than your dose. that being said, as individuals with different problems here is obviously a wide range of dosing to suit ones needs. i just want to put fair warning that its very diffcult to discontinue and be very wary of ever increasing doses to maintain the good spirits you are in now. perhaps therapy at this stage to resolve the problens you needed to take Klonpin can be resolved and you will no longer need the pill.
please don't take this a comment to stop your taking your meds, but as a suggestion that you have options as well as the Klonopin.

hoping for the best,
fcvalentine

Spriggy,

I was wondering..when did your anxiety symptoms begin? Did it come on suddenly or gradually get worse over a period of time or did you have spells of it and then it would go away and come back?

Do you wake up scared in the mornings (or, rather, did you?) Do you now wake up feeling normal?

Has your doctor given you any clue as to what the cause of your symptoms is? And I forget whether you are on any AD or not.

Anyway, I am so glad you are better.

Marsha,

I've had problems with anxiety off and on probably as long as I can remember (even as a child). I don't think i recognized it was anxiety though- I had serious irrational fears; thinking the ceilings of building would cave in on me as a child, that someone was going to come into my house and kidnap/murder me, etc..

A few times I recall shaking really badly as a child and not being able to control it.

I've had a handful of horrific full blown panic attacks; but for the most part, this last year my anxiety hit an all time high. The "non functioning" type of anxiety.

I tried Wellbutrin and Lexapro- neither worked for me, in fact, they made me worse.

Xanex helps with panic attacks but I realized I needed something daily to prevent the "cycle" in my head; horrible racing thoughts and all around general anxiety.

I wouldn't say I would wake up "scared" per se', more like I would wake up with either jumping jacks in my stomach or my chest. It was a very physical feeling (like I needed to RUN) and a very mental feeling (thoughts going 100 mph).

Anyway, I'm not on any other psych med right now other than the Klonopin. So far, I'm doing good on it.

I'm struggling at the moment because of an event with a friend from my church; I had to take her to be admitted to the psych ward that I myself was in, I think that has "rehashed" some old reminders for me..

I'm sure I'll recoop.

Anyway, hope I answered all your questions.

Spriggy, I don't know why but your post doesn't show up when I click on it. I get that page that says it isn't available.

It's fixed now. Last night when I tried to pull it up, I kept getting directed to a page that said "post not available..." but now I can read it.

I get a similar feeling in the morning - like there is too much adrenaline coursing around in my stomach and chest. Sometimes there's also a feeling of dread and apprehension, a feeling of impending doom and guilt mixed in. It feels like I've been having nightmares all night. Then I get up and just feel jittery and anxious. Then I take my .5 Klonopin and in a couple of hours, it gradually goes away and I usually feel okay the rest of the day. Sometimes I get a little more anxiety in the afternoon but not too bad.

I can't believe you were prescribed Wellbutrin when your primary problem was anxiety! Wellbutrin made my anxiety much worse and so did Lexapro.

Does taking an afternoon or evening dose of Klonopin keep you from waking up with the jitters?

Marsha

Yes it must.. I take mine first thing in the morning and RIGHT before bed- when I wake up, that feeling is gone (unless one of my kid's just puked all over their bed then it's back, ROFL).
