Depression brought to you by .... Dexedrine

Posted by Maxime on June 11, 2005, at 22:00:09

Tonight I had the worst crash ever from Dexedrine. It was awful. I still feel awful.

I don't see how to get around it because I will always have to take my last Dexedrine.

I will be talking to pdoc about Provigil and hopefully I will have better results.

All I can do is think about suicide right now and SI.

Maxime,

Just remember you won't feel this way permanently. I know it's hard, maybe impossible right now, but believe that I believe it and I'm looking at it objectively, not from the pit of depression.

What do you mean you will always have to take your last dexedrine?

I've seen the term SI here before and I don't know what it means. It is ED related?

SI = Self Injure

Some people here have said that I time my doses properly I won't crash. But I am saying that it's impossible not to because I have to stop taking it (otherwise I will never sleep). So I will always have a last Dexedrine to take.

What other stimulants have you tried? Maybe this one isn't the right one for you. Is it for ADD? I had this same reaction with a high-ish dose of Adderall XR, but when I got off of it for several weeks, and then went back titrating up from 10, 20, 25, to 30 mg XR, which is less than what I was taking before, it's working like a charm. Maybe just a little blue when it wears off, but not bad, and it doesn't last more than an hour or so. Hope this and provigil aren't the last resorts.

Yes they are. Adderall worked great but was then removed from Canada.

Ritalin, and all forms thereof, I cannot TOUCH.

So I am down to Dexedrine and provigil. :-(

Have you been to the www.addforums.com site? It has a lot of info on the meds sucesses and failures. If the provigil or dex. doesn't work, what about the alternative meds for ADD, like Strattera or Wellbutrin? Just out of curiosity, what happened with the Ritalin? I just quit taking that.

Maxime, what are you doing about anxiety?

You might profit from an AP until you find something that is truly effective for the depression, of which the anxiety might be a symptom. I like to use Zyprexa in extreme depressive states, especially when I view things as being catastrophic.

Lots of love,

Maxime,

Dexedrine was the WORST stim my daughter ever took. The let-down was so awful that she literally attacked me in the car with her shoe. This from the sweetest, most mild mannered little girl. Why Dexedrine and not Adderall? Or, if you must use Dexedrine, why not a smaller dose in the afternoon to bring you down more smoothly?

We're all here for you.

On Ritalin I would crash even harder and would self injure. Wellbutrin makes me psychotic. And Strattera knocks me out and makes me throw up.

Um, I lactate on all anti-psychotics. ALL. I deal with anxiety through CBT and breathing exercises.

Anxiety has only been a problem in the past few months because I am out of work and starting to panic.

Hi Maxime -

If I had such bad reactions to medications and I found one that was perfect for me and it was no longer available in Canada . . . I think I'd leave Canada pronto! (Of course, I obviously don't know anything about your life other than your horrible illness and difficulty with meds. I realize it's probably not so cut and dry.)

Hang in there, Maxime. Based on what I've read on this board over the past few months, you have quite a support system out there - a well deserved one since you have provided amazing support to so many others. Best of luck to you -

Okay, that makes sense. And the Parnate itself contributes to the insomnia, too. So it's a double whammy. And you can't NOT take the Dexedrine or something similar because of the fatigue from the MS. What a Catch-22.

I feel so bad for you. I remember when I used to take diet pills (recreationally, addictively, though, not as medication). I remember how bad I'd feel coming down. And I remember how awful I felt for a while after I quit taking them. If that's what you are going through every day, my God, no wonder you are thinking suicidally. Does your pdoc know how the crash is affecting you?

Awww, thanks Mildred! That is so kind of you!

If I had the money I would go to the U.S. and see a doctor there and get the prescription and buy it there. But that's not going to happen.

It's really frustrating because they removed the med because some children in the U.S. had strokes and there was one fatality. So I think Health Canada should have still made it available to adults. Although they could give it to there kids ... sigh.

Actually I get fatigue from the Parnate in the afternoon and I get fatigue from the MS. My doctor knows about the crashing. He said not to take but to exercise more to help my depression. Sigh. Okay. I do exercise I have been a compulsive exerciser in the past and it's already starting to happen again.

I am going to ask him if I can try Provigil. I'm calling him tomorrow.

I used to abuse Ephedra very badly and would crash from that, except at one point I was just taking so much I was up all the time so I never crash. Plus I was overexercising.
