I'm currently on Paxil (60mg) which has pooped out. My PDoc is tapering me down to 30mg and then adding (a week later) 30mg of Pamelor. My last PDoc had a nasty habit of prescribing med combos that would have bad interactions - so I'm a bit paranoid now. I've looked up on the net and I know that Paxil inhibits Pamelor metabolisation - but my doc has taken this into account with the dosage of the Pamelor.
Has anyone else been on this combo (and what dosage?) or have any comments?
Thanks
Jackie

In reply to Paxil Pamelor OK together?, posted by Jackster on January 28, 2003, at 0:50:03
Combining any SSRI with a tricyclic is a favorite combination strategy of my doc, though he is now more often using Zyprexa instead of a TCA due to its overall success and lower side effects.
Nortriptyline should augment the Paxil nicely and should help your sleep too. The main side effects to expect are dry mouth and constipation. If you were in my doc's office, he would probably speak to you about Zyprexa instead of a TCA.

> JackieJackie,
I've been on nortriptyline (20mg) with Zoloft (12.5mg) and it worked quite well. Zoloft inhibits IID6 liver enzymes similar to Paxil. After you have been on the combo for a couple of weeks you can get a nortiptyline blood draw to see if you are getting into the therapeutic range (for nt).
