Combining any SSRI with a tricyclic is a favorite combination strategy of my doc, though he is now more often using Zyprexa instead of a TCA due to its overall success and lower side effects.

Nortriptyline should augment the Paxil nicely and should help your sleep too. The main side effects to expect are dry mouth and constipation. If you were in my doc's office, he would probably speak to you about Zyprexa instead of a TCA.
