cure insomnia caused by withdrawal from Zyprexa

Posted by ttt on November 18, 2001, at 19:35:04

I had chronic insomnia after I stopped Zyprexa. Does anyone have the same experience?

Is this type of insomnia can be cured by practicing sleep restriction or good sleep hygen? Or do I have to resume Zyprexa?

I have not been on Zyprexa for two months now and have had insomnia since then. I took Seroquel and was able to get some sleep but I did not feel normal and did not like the side effects and had to ween it off. Beside I do not seem to get any benefit from anti psychotic med. I have a hard time weening off seroquel mainly due to chronic insomna. The idea of depending of med to sleep is simply killing me.

quicky reply:
can you take something like ambien for a while?

I take zyprexa too, and would not like to find
out that it causes rebound insomnia when I stop.
I was previously taking Remeron primariy to help my
crummy sleep. I dropped Remeron when
I started Zyprexa becuase it seemed to fix my
sleep also and I thought that the Remeron was
just a redundant medication. (The remeron did
nothing for me except help my sleep).

JohnX2,
Ambien, sonata only work the first week or so. The effect reduced so fast. None worked anymore the last time I tried.

I am now off all med for 2days. So amazingly, I was able to get 2-4hrs total of sleep in the last 2 nights withou med.

I posted questions on sleepnet.com and there was somebody who had the same insomnia problem with Zyprexa only after 2wks on Zyprexa. You need to ask you Dr. if you need to ween it off. Who knows your Dr. might be one of the few genius who know how to get you off it safely. Or you might be the lucky one who can get off it without insomnia or withdrawal syndromes.

John,
Trazodone is antidepresant. It works on the brain chemical beside making people sleep. I have trazodone but afraid to take it and have never taken it since there are many people suffured from withdrawal syndromes. I still keep it since I respect my Dr. as well as your opinion. Beside I still think it might be a good med in case I actually really need it especially I don't know it works or not.

I do not know my condition well. I feel like the diagnostic method is not an exact science. I do not like the idea of guessing the disease and curing by trial and error. Sort of like looking the face and be able tell the disease 90% sure or listening to the pulse and tell exactly what the disease is. There was no proof, no test, no nothing to diagnose more accurately. The side effects of the med get in until it is too late to regret as in my case. This is the reason why I am so fearful of these meds that affect the dopamine/serotonin. I don't mean to complain here but this is how I feel and it really irritated my Dr. Indeed, my Dr. has thrown me out for second opinion. I am now docless. I don't think my last Dr. care much any way.

I guess my problem now is fear but I still really want to know more about the sure and safe cure.

Thank you very much.
