Hello... I am in the first weeks of a 44 week (first 8 weeks are double-blind)research study of Serzone ER. This study is sponsered by B M Squibb and is very extensive. The Doctors and myself are sure that I am not in the Placebo group based on certain side effects. I would like to talk to anyone that has insight and experience with Serzone IR or is curious about this study.

HiI am very interested in this study. I was on Serzone for 8 months and felt as though I was on a rollercoaster!! At first my Dr. prescribed 350mg. I started out with small dosages and worked my way up. Eventually I needed to take 600mg a day. The serzone seemed somewhat effect as long as I was increasing or going up in dosage. Once I leveled off it's effectiveness wore off and my depression symptoms came back to haunt me. My Dr. tried toward the end to augment the Serzone with Wellbutrin. I did not tolerate the Wellbutrin at all - bad side effects (hallucinated). Anyway I am now 2 months into Zoloft at 150mg a day and I feel fantastic. I never felt this good consistently on Serzone. I hope this isn't too long for you, but it is good to know there is a study - I am interested - please let me know how I can find out more information!! Thank-you!

To anyone out there,
I am living with my fiance who just switched from 20mg of Paxil a day to 50 mg of Serzone. He's on a starter pack where he steps up to 100 mg then to 150 mg and then levels off. He's only been on it for 3 days, but I can tell he is very irritable (angry to the point where he'll break things around the house). Does anyone know how I should handle the situation? I try to ask how he's feeling, but he just wants me to leave him alone. I want to help him, but I feel helpless. Sometimes I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster myself. If anyone has any advice, I would love to hear it.Thank you.

Seedling, if you can hang in there a couple of weeks...the anger and weirdness went away after two weeks, on Serzone, and then I felt GREAT and mellow.

I believe, can't remember exactly, that I was on Serzone about 8 weeks and the HOSTILITY never went away. There are a lot of these stories on Babble. Personally, I DO NOT like Serzone.
Hopefully the extended release will be better or maybe people will just be more steadily pissed off.
Only suggestion I could make is for your fiancee to up the dose VERY SLOWLY.

I believe it acted inconsistently with me. The anger and hostility reappeared whenever my dose began to "wear off," which was much too quickly. The half-life of Serzone is 2-5 hours. Paxil is a much longer acting drug, as are most SSRI's. Serzone is a MESS for me!! I bet he might feel better if he tries something ELSE!!!

Thank you Cindy W, Phil, and Alyse for your comments. Well, it's been almost a month he's been on Serzone. He's less angry, but still unhappy and depressed. I think it's time to switch drugs. I know there are so many other drugs out there, can you recommend a drug that has been successful for you? He needs to be treated for his anxiety and depression.

I bet he might feel better if he tries something ELSE!!!Seedling, your husband needs to talk to his pdoc since everybody's different...I am now taking Effexor-XR and it's helping with both depression and OCD. Have tried Prozac, Luvox, Zoloft, and imipramine as well as Serzone; all but Serzone and imipramine interfered terribly with sexual arousal and orgasm. Have your husband ask his pdoc since there are many very good medications, if Serzone isn't working for him. I don't think they can tell who will respond to what, except by trying it out. Where are they conducting this clinical trial research? how long before the drug is approved?
