Reducing Celexa

Posted by Cass on July 18, 2001, at 1:01:18

My doctor suggested reducing my Celexa from 40 mg. to 20mg. a day. I reduced it somewhat gradually. My problem is that now I have insomnia. It takes me a long time to fall asleep, and I'm taking Lorazapam to help, but I do NOT want to get addicted to that. I'm also clenching my jaw more, and I often feel like my core temperature is too low. It's a strange cold feeling. I also feel spaced out. What are other people's experiences?

Why are you reducing it? A dose of 40 mg of Celexa is not considered to be excessive. Anytime that you reduce an AD it is common to have side effects such as you mentioned. Give it a couple of weeks. If you still have trouble sleeping and other bad effects, manbe you should consider going back up to 40 mg.

My doctor suggested that I reduce the Celexa because I am taking Ritalin more regularly now, and I am feeling somewhat agitated. He said Celexa can have that effect, so if the Ritalin was helping, I could decrease the Celexa. I don't think my insomnia is due to the Ritalin because when I started taking it regularly and had not reduced the Celexa yet, I did not have insomnia or the other symptoms.

Hi - I did not get good results with Celexa at 40 mg/day for 4 weeks, just unpleasant side effects that did not dissipate (headaches, feeing foggy headed, heavy headed, spacey and detached).

I tapered off it and went on to EffexorXR, but that is proving too activating for me.

I also have insomnia. It takes me a long time to fall asleep, but I'm on Zyprexa/Klonopin for that and it works - however, with me (and I've heard this is true for others also), I need to take the Zyprexa like 3-4 HOURS before bedtime for it to kick in. It does not zonk me immediately like it does for most.

I don't clench my jaw (that I know of) but I also feel like my core temperature is too low and I have low blood pressure, which I've heard can cause the feeling of low body temp.
