Changing from effexor to wellbutrin

Posted by Roxk on June 27, 2001, at 22:33:44

i've been taking effexor for about 21/2 months and have been dissapointed by the lack of improvement i feel.I tried prozac for about the same amount of time and didn't feel the improvement was worth the sexual side effects. I'm experiencing the same side effect with effexor. my doc is changing me to wellbutrin but i have been told to just give my body a "wash" for three days then start the wellbutrin. DOes anyone have something that would let me know what to expect from this change?

You might have a little nausea and other withdrawal symptoms, so taper off the effexor slowly. And remember that benadryl and over-the-counter emetrol can help with the symptoms.

My doc just did the same thing. He didn't tell me to "wash" the Effexor. I simply started to take Wellbutrin immediatly. No withdrawls, but no improvement with Wellbutrin.

Wellbutrin is still out there to see if it works, but it did take away all withdrawl symptoms of Effexor. My anxiety seems to be under control from a beta blocker I take for high blood pressure....Atenolol...

i'm currently taking both effexor and wellbutrin as neither did much singly ... i've only been on this combo about 10 days but i have noticed some improvement.. the only problem i'm having seems to be from the wellbutrin - i can't fall asleep, no matter how tired i am! pdoc just prescribed ambien so i'm hoping that'll help

anyone else using them both?

Hi,
If you take the wellbutrin too late in the evening it can keep you up. Often a bedtime dose actually puts me to sleep. But I also have had days when I knew it was clearly past my bedtime and I wasn't remotely tired. Ambien to the rescue. Just make sure you have at least 7 hours of sleep time when you take the ambien or you'll get up pretty groggy. But Ambien works great for me and it's only every once in a while that I'm met with bedtime and still complete alertness. I take 10mg. -Terra P.S. I am on wellbutrin only; no effexor.

good morning terra... thanks for replying...
i was taking my 2nd dose of wellbutrin as early as noon and it still kept me up but i tend towards difficuly falling asleep so it doesn't take much to exacerbate it... pdoc tells me to take both doses together and boy did i feel overmedicated - didn't like it at all except for the diminished appetite - but i was clearly overstimulated (i also take concerta) and i really worry about being on too much meds... i feel like i'm losing myself... and am scared about the dependency.. so i'm currently only taking the morning dose and i'll see if that's enough

thanks for the tip about the ambien

regards
v
