tremors...Celexa or Lithium?

Posted by harry b. on May 4, 2000, at 15:45:52

For several weeks I've experienced tremors in both my
hands and fingers. The tremors are present at rest and
are more obvious when, for instance, holding a book or
drinking a glass of water.

I'm also experiencing muscle spasms throughout my body
but these are minor and I'm not too concerned about
them.

I don't know whether to attribute the tremors to Celexa
or to Lithium. Is anyone familiar with this? Do they
stay, do they subside? Is there a way to control them
without yet another med?

Thanks

My guess harry b would be the lithium. Tremors is one of its pretty common side-effects.

take care, Janice

While Lithium is known for causing tremors, Celexa can definitely cause both tremors and spasms, although they tend to become minimal after the first week or two. I don't know whether they last with Lithium. If you recently started the combo, you may have an additive effect going. Was the Lithium added to potentiate the Celexa, or are you taking it for bipolar or some other disorder?

Rick- I was taking Effexor. I was not seeing an
improvement with the Effexor and was experiencing
some troubling side effects. My doc added the Lithium
to augment the Effexor. It was only a
a few days later that I stopped the Effexor
and began the Celexa.

So, the Lithium is to augment, and both meds were
begun at nearly the same time. The tremors did not
begin right away, they appeared about 2 weeks
into this combination. There has been no increase
of dosage of either med.

Thanks

Harryb,I don't know about the Lithium as I have never taken it,but the Celexa has caused me muscle spasms since I went on it the first of December....and the Adderall I try to take has only increased the muscle spasming.
