What's Up Y'all?

Posted by gREg on June 4, 2002, at 12:22:51

Hey Gang,

Been awfully quiet around here. We don't want Bob to think that this was a bad idea do we?

I've been using my away time to hammer the poor, unsuspecting job recruiters about finding me a job. I finally got tired of sitting around on my dead ass and whining about how miserable I am doing contract work and started making some calls. So far I haven't come up with anything but I sure have rattled some cages (and pissed a few people off in the process). I had one company which I'm paying to look for me tell me, "Well Greg, you know we are in the midst of a recession and the job market is very tough right now. You have to be patient." I said, "NO SHIT? I hadn't noticed! You had no problem taking my money though. Now stop making excuses and show me some results." I really am getting mouthy in my old age... Which reminds me, I have a birthday coming this month and anyone who wants to send me an expensive gift can let me know and I'll e-mail you my address :) Just kidding, I mean what can you buy a 19-year old that they don't already have....

Things are pretty good around the old homestead, the family is doing well, the kids are ornery as usual. Jeni is less than three months away from having the baby and I'm about to bust over that. I hadn't seen her for about 3 weeks until last weekend and she went from barely showing to "OH MY GOD"! We're throwing her baby shower for her next month (well, actually my wife is. I'm going to set everything up and leave...).

So how is everybody doing? Anybody won the lotto? Pitched a no-hitter? Had a starring role in a movie? Helped Shar down the stairs?

Hugs to the "OTs"

Greg

even though you did spell your name in a bizarre fashion, hmmm what can that possibly mean? I'm glad you are focusing on the positives (like your new grandchild) and you actually sound healthy in the way you are coping with your job situation. I'm guessing you've been in a similar situation before and I just bet it all worked out, just like it will again. Take care of yourself- Judy

Ditto what Judy said.

One of the good parts of getting older is being able to mouth off and not getting in trouble because you're already the oldest adult there. A silver lining.

I'm glad to see that we share the 'have no shame' approach to asking for presents! That's the way it should be! Esp. when you're turning 55, that's only 10 years away from social security!

I'm ok. It sounds like you are too. How's the knee?

Hi Greg,

It is nice to hear you sounding chirpy. Make sure that's really the way you are feeling, and not a front for emotions that are going to come out at some stage. It sounds as though you have let them out, though, to the job agencies - and so you should!

I am thinking of you lots.
Love Rachael

And why would you think that my British Babe??? You know I love you. If it's because I haven't written, I've been an Equal Opportunity Snob to everyone...

Seriously, it's been real tough to get up the energy to write love. I'll sit down this weekend and drop you a few lines, I'll even flirt a little if you like... ;)

I wont mention any names, but some of us are MUCH closer to 55 than others. But it is nice to know that I'll have someone to guide me thru the "Golden Years" :)

The knee still hurts like hell but I have to put off the MRI until after the first of July. I have to finish the project I'm doing at work first. They scheduled a thank you dinner for all the people working on the project and said to be sure I was invited because without me it couldn't have been completed on time. They scheduled it for the day of my surgery....story of my life.

So is your house clean yet? I'll be there next week.

Actually Judy I don't think I have ever been in this type of situation with a job before. I think I just reached that "snap point". There were two postings for openings in my field today and I got my res sent in right away so I'll see if I get any calls. I know things will work out eventually, it's just that patience is definitely not one of my virtues....

How's our baby doing?

Allipoo,

Things go from good to bad in a heartbeat or so it seems, but I guess that's par for the course for us eh? I was reading a thread over on the new Faith board about God not giving us anything we can't handle. I think he gives things we can't handle all the time, he just wants to see how we manipulate our environment in order to survive it...

You didn't know I was such a deep thinker, did you?

So how's everything going at school? I know you were taking on some monster responsibilities, I hope it's eased up some. You know how Dad worries about you :)

Love ya,
Greg

I forgot what Noa called her- but I find myself calling her the 'babbler' in front of other people which is okay since my being nuts has never been in dispute. (Her name is Gabrielle). I'm shocked you've never had to go through the job hunt thing- you're very lucky (I've lost count how many times I've been in that situation, but honestly every move I ever made was for the better- really!) My fingers are crossed for you with these 2 new jobs- please post and let us know. Take care, Judy

First I have to explain MIC, which is an acronym, which will then explain YIC.

When I first came to PB I was in pretty bad shape (yes, ever worse than now) and the lovely and talented Shar was one of the very first people to post to me. We started talking pretty regularly and the more I got to know her the more I found her to be a very intelligent, warm and caring person. She really helped me thru some very tough times. Whenever I wouldn't see a post from her for a few days I found myself getting very worried (it's nice having the luxury of her phone number now). We got along so well and seemed to have so much in common that I decided I wanted to adopt her, or maybe she adopted me, I'm not real sure... Anywoooo, the more we talked and I eavesdropped on her convos with other people I discovered among other things that she was from the Great State of Texas which of course to a Californian meant she had to be a cowgirl. She has the cutest southern drawl BTW. I also found out in what I remember to be an extremely long thread that she has an Italian heritage.

So one day in a fit of silliness I referred to her as an Italian Cowgirl. From then on we've signed all our posts and e-mails to each other MIC and YIC (My & Your.....)

Did I leave anything out Shar? I know I did and I know you'll correct me... :)

I know this was hardly worth the wait Judy, but you have to admit it is kinda cute.

Greg

she's a smart city slicker through and through. She can still chat up the good old boys and talk Texan when necessary. It's just natural, ain't it Shar. Like falling in a trailor load of cotton on a hot day in Ju'ly. Don't even spill her Dr. Pepper and that's good. You just don't spill Dr. Pepper in Texas; I think it's a law.
You have good taste, Greg.

Part of Greg's learning about my Italian/Sicilian heritage came about when he was giving me shit about some thing or another, and I very gently warned him that La Familia wouldn't take kindly to anyone hassling me.

Greg quickly understood that yes I meant THAT La Familia, and I DID have a cousin Guido that wasn't too bright but carried out orders very thoroughly, and that Greg probably did not want to mix it up with Guido....

Greg's been so much nicer ever since.......

I think Phil was almost introduced to Guido once....

Shar :-D

He met me in the parking garage after work one day, said who he was, and said if I ever needed anything, he'd be watching..what a guy? He asked how I liked living on my street and how my cat was. Shar must have made me sound really special!! Even had my address and cats name.
Just like that, him and several other very well dressed guys with bent noses drove away in a black stretch Lincoln.
Thanks Shar!!

Cousin Guido was very nice-I'll convey the msg. :) (nm) » Phil
