tranxene withdrawl?

Posted by jeff on June 15, 1998, at 20:11:13

Hi,
I've been on tranxene for almost three months. Was taking 11.25mgs (3.75mgs 3x/day), then went down to two/day. Thursday of last week I stopped taking it. I've noticed some things like feeling in a fog, some jitteriness/shakiness, muscle aches, some confusion or difficulty concentrating, anxiousness, not feeling quite like myself. I've felt this way since Saturday. Some of the fooginess may be going away (as of today). Is this possibly withdrawl?
If so, how long does it last?

It's possible that it's at least partly withdrawal.

How long withdrawal lasts depends on the particular
drug, the dose, how long it's been taken, etc.
Given the half-life of Tranxene, it could take up
to a couple weeks to really get it out of your
system.

It's always a good idea, of course, to let your
doctor know what's going on. Good luck,

Bob

I have taken Tranxene since 1979, with -0- problems.
My newest Dr. has tried to switch me to Prozac,
Serezone and Paxil. All have caused me horrible burning
headaches. My problem was panic attacks not depression. My point is during
all those years, I had no trouble for periods of not taking Tranxene and no withdrawls.
These new medications are scary. They alter your brain chemicals, which might be good
if you have certain problems, but boy are they useless for basic nerve troubles.

Jeff,

I agree ... you need a new pdoc who will put you back on Tranxene if that's what works on your panic, and the sooner the better. As a pdoc once wrote me, a functional life sometimes demands a price, and Tranxene is a very small price to pay, IMHO.

I briefly tried Tranxene a year ago, and it didn't do much to help with my anxiety. Xanax and Klonopin (which are in the same family of drugs as Tranxene) work much better for me, and other anxiety and panic sufferers. However, I know several people who swear by Tranxene, and if it works for you, I suggest you stick with it!
