Weird, why does this hurt?

Posted by Deneb on August 15, 2010, at 8:56:57

Ever since yesterday, I've discovered that it hurts a little to breathe in deeply. Is this normal and I just never noticed it?

OK, not my imagination

OK, I've figured out that this is not my imagination. I get worse pain when I "bear down" like when peeing hard or pooping.

It's definitely a mild pain (if I can even call it that) when I yawn or breathe deeply. Maybe I am just being a hypochondriac again.

I'm very curious as to what could be causing this though. Any ideas?

Mild aches and pains are part of being human, I think.

If I were you, I'd concentrate on eating healthy, exercising moderately, etc.

It could be anything from stress to muscle strain to gas. If you think you need to see a doctor, then of course you should. I'm not trying to discourage you.

I agree with Dinah, and Phillipa has a good idea, too.

If you are not short of breath or coughing, and don't have any other breathing symptoms, it is likely not a lung issue. We have a lot of muscles in the chest area. They can really hurt when we do any of those things you mentioned if they are strained, or if something is inflamed in there. I'd guess it is not serious.

Maybe just take it easy and see your doctor if it gets worse?

I don't know. It's possible.

Nah, I don't need to see a doctor. I think my mind is just playing tricks on me. What probably happened was that I may have strained something sneezing or something.

I think the breathing thing is normal, I can't even really describe it as pain. I don't usually breath that deeply, but it is probably normal.

Yeah, it's not bad at all. I'm just hyper sensitive or something.

Not to scare you but when my thyroid issues started when expanded my chest to breath it was next to impossible. Just see if it gets better as if serious other symptoms will follow. Phillipa
