Good grief. That's awful. I had a temp job in a kitchen once, and I had to start at 6am. Fortunately it transpired that I had no aptitude for the work; I can barely peel a potato without cutting myself. So they let me go and I found something more suitable (secretarial work; 9am start). In my current job I'm normally at work by 9 or 9:30.

How late do you finish? I hope they don't expect you to work till 7.30 at night!

The job I just quit after 2 years had working hours of 7:30am to 4:30pm, and that isn't why I quit :(
I am definitely a Morning Person, up by 5:15 or so, and fall asleep quite early.

I'm lucky; I have flex hours - I come in when I like (but generally by 9) and leave after I've worked 8 hours. I'm one of those morning people so I'm usually in a 7:30 and out by 4:30. I love it. Sometimes salary rather than hourly is a good thing; definitely a selling point for finishing college. Of course, somtimes I don't leave until 5:30 or 6, but thankfully not too often.

yes, I used to work 7:30 to 4:30, but as we eat at our desks every day, my boss recently told me to start coming in at 8 instead of 7:30...

I definitely like getting OUT of work while the sun is still shining...

I finish at 4pm. It's a University office on summer hours, and we get a 1/2 hour lunch. Being out at 4 will be nice, I think. It's my first day of summer hours here.

Chuckle. (Not laughing AT you - you know me better...)

But....

22+ years in the Air Force.
7:30 - 4:30 for about 18 of those.
The rest...sometimes 6am, or 7am.
And then, there were always the periodic middle of the night training exercises and so forth...

And you know what's so interesting, and always seems to come up somehow in therapy....

I voluntarily served, working such early (and many times VERY long) days for nearly a quarter century....and I HATE mornings.

Don't function until about 10 am. Dragged myself to work most of those years. Drew strength and energy from pots of balck coffee and my troops/coworkers who WERE morning people. I am completely a night owl according to every set of criteria or test I'm ever taken/seen.

Yet somehow I managed.

Not presently working. Miss the structure. In a warped way, miss HAVING to be chipper and dressed and functioning at 7:30.

But on the other hand.....oh, never mind. I am conflicted and trying to find my way with this whole work thing and it's proving to be verrrry confusing.

Voce, welcome to my (former) world of military-style work hours! You can do it.

Something that the Geneva convention wouldn't allow for terrorist prisoners......

That's me, alright..........

> Voce, welcome to my (former) world of military-style work hours! You can do it.>

Yeah I know. My body is rebelling. Thank goodness it's light when I wake up, or else there would be no chance. In high school, classes started at 7:20, which is pretty inhumane for teens, I think. So I've done this before. In college I got kind of lazy....when you don't have class til 11am, it's easy to sleep til 10:30 guilt-free!!

7:15am starts for me usually through to 4:30 or 5pm. But since I'm pretty sure I got demolished in a restructured yesterday, who knows.

That'd be the fact that me or my position don't appear to appear on any of the new org charts. Hmmm, guess that depends on your definition of okay. I'm strangely ambivalent about it at the moment, more announcements at 12:30pm Sydney time, so about 2 hours from now and then again tomorrow. The VP took time out after the initial announcement yesterday to see how I was with it which was nice, but I kinda got the impression he was tryiing to help me prepare for the worst. Oh well, just have to wait and see, no point worrying about it. Thanks for the hug Ana you're such a lovely person.

Ouch.

My husband always says he doesn't know whether to pity the retained or the released when this hits his company.

I'll hope that whatever tomorrow's announcement brings, that you will be in the group least to be pitied.

Yesterday's meeting just told me the same as the one the day before and now there's another one today. But everything I've seen and what I'm being told suggests that only a miracle will save me. Just have to wait and see I guess. Thanks for your support it means a lot.

Thanks Alex,

I'm doing disturbingly well actually. Not so long ago this sort of thing would have been the trigger for a major episode, but so far so good. Really concerned about the two guys I inherited in my 'acting Mgr' capacity as neither of them is a clear map to a role in the new organisation - mind you either am I. Latest news is that it might not be any clearer until the week of June 13. Oh well, all the worrying in the world won't change the outcome.

I sometimes have to be in by 8:30, and I HATE that! (oops, hope none of my clients at that time read this.) :O

10:00 a.m. seems so much more civilized to me. :)

And I don't mind working later, like til 6 if I don't come in til 10. I tend to eat dinner late. My body clock seems to be askew from the rest of the world, darn it.

Maybe...
Maybe...
Part of you is thinking that a change might be nice.
I'm not sure whether I am following along ok..
Is it about redundancy?
How long have you been working there?
Will you get a decent redundancy pay if it comes to that???

One of my friends recently was made redundant from the language institute at uni. She got a reasonable pay and is now following her passion of becoming a wedding / portrait photographer.

Maybe...
Whatever happens will be for the best
:-)
Hang in there.

You're right, but stability and security have always been very important to me.

> Is it about redundancy?
Potentially, probably, more than likely :-)

> How long have you been working there?
18 years in August - it's hard to believe, only seems like a hundred.

> Will you get a decent redundancy pay if it comes to that???

Now there's a question. Guess so, don't exactly know what though but I've got 16 weeks long service up my sleeve and 4 weeks accrued leave on top of whatever it is. So should be okay for a while. but the downside is that the mortgage monster still needs feeding.

That's the trouble I've so lost myself somewhere I don't have something like that calling me. Part of me is strongly saying that no matter what I should start studies toward a counselling qualification and maybe some manual therapies or Reiki or something. Don't know.

> Whatever happens will be for the best

Yeh, I know you're right. I'm still surprised how okay I am with it all.

Thanks, I will.

is it friday over by you yet? i can never keep track.

if it is friday and nothing has happened it may never happen. friday is, i believe, the most common day for stuff like that to happen.

as an aside, i think you would make an excellent counselor.
