Well, compared to Ignatius, I suspect Boo would be a better listener. He might not understand much of the language, but would probably tune into the voice cues. Ignatius O'Reilly, on the other hand, would probably have full control of the semantics, but totally miss the non-verbal cues.

I've never seen an inkblot except in college textbooks. But if I ever got shown one for real, it would be fun to make up something wacky.

d)We're still together but I keep longing for something new and I'm looking around

I have to agree with the person who said Jessie's therapist on Once and Again.

I've been slightly less grim during cabin/hiking trips in the woods with friends.

CHOCOLATE, CHOCOLATE AND MORE CHOCOLATE. DARK AND BITTER AND EXPENSIVE.

1979 Toyota Corona hatchback. Great car. It saw me through field work in grad school. The poor thing got ranscacked by [an animal] when I left a window open one night in a campground.

Sounds cliched, but "why are we here - what is the meaning of life (the universe, and everything)?."

Get a really snazzy haircut with a top stylist. But that still leaves a lot. I'd take a trip someplace exotic. Then I'd do the usual. I'd help any family members or friends who need money, give some to a few charities, invest the rest and know that I could take any job I wanted even if the salary was a pittance.

Well, I think I said 17%, but Shar said something about it should be in years, percent is relative to your age. Well, since I am 24, 17% is about 3.5 years I guess.
> > 3. Have you ever lied about what you saw in an inkblot?

I said no, but I've never had an "official" test... I did and emode.com quiz though, and I may have lied because they didn't look like anything to me.

> 8. Describe your first car.

Depends if you're talking about if I owned the car or not. The one I gave was actually owned by my father. The first I have owned myself (which is my car right now, and I don't own it yet!) is a 95 plum-colored Cavalier. It suits me well enough.

Yeah... I try to think about that, how lucky I am because I have so much that others don't have. But also, there is just so much misery that I have, so much pain, and other misfortunes. I once had a therapist who said that when you don't have to worry about the basic needs of life (food, shelter...) then these more complex problems develop since you aren't so preoccupied with the day-to-day survival - although, if you think about it, yes we really are in a different way!

I decided my ignorance was just too embarassing.

Atticus Finch is certainly a worthy hero. And a great dad. An altogether admirable man. But I don't think I'd like him as a therapist. Just me of course, but he was a bit too laconic for my tastes. I think it might make me a bit nuts.

Different strokes.

Now I have to figure out how to get a glimpse of Jessie's therapist.

But I did think of another therapist I'd like to have. In the episode of Monk where he checked into the asylum. The murderous psychiatrist was very insightful and energetic. As Monk said, "Except for the murders, and that you tried to kill me, you were the best doctor I ever had." As long as I didn't catch on to his secrets or make him mad, he'd be pretty good. :)

Noa,

My goodness woman you are funny! First the image of the bouncing zoloft bubble in that AD ad that someone posted a bit back and now this? You are very funny. Kudos to judy1 for the Lucy choice. I think she is tops too. A bit bossy but that gal has nuggets of wisdom in there (Schultz (sp?) was good for so many years. His Peanuts will live on forever).

Wow, sorry, I didn't mean to ruin your whole sense of stability in the world and with yourself. I hope that you can manage to once again find peace (if you ever had it to begin with).
Oh, and I did think that you are a guy, with the name Jim, BUT of course I really don't know if that's your real name, so it could very well be a ploy to keep your identity secret!

>

Probably not to both questions. And, if life was "fair," then somehow people would still believe it wasn't. Utopia just isn't possible. And it probably would be more boring...
>
> OR
> perhaps its unfairness provides the challenge that makes life sporting .... .... say life was analogous to tennis ... ... the unfairness is the net ... ...

Do you think that it is the net that is the unfairness? Because, since the net is equal for both players, then they really have equal opportunity, don't they? But yes, unfairness does provide a sense of challenge in life, like, if someone is less smart than others, he/she might want to challenge himself to work harder to achieve the same goals... but then, maybe it's impossible for this person to ever achieve the same goals, and he/she then just must dwell on the unfairness of it all, or learn to accept it. And then it might lead to low self-esteem, depression, and on and on. So whether this "challenge" of fighting the unfairnesses in our lives is good or bad, well that is another question.
>
> OR

True. It does lead to a lot of interesting conversation, whether directly or indirectly.

to which i now reply:
... ... actually, i'm out of shape by being happily married these 17 years ... ...
... ... and having you tell me you were/are a girl caught me off guard ...
... ... then somehow it hit my old shy-with-girl button ... ...
... ... i get to have more than my share of peace and stability ...
... ... but you must know that you have an effect on guys ... ... (?)
... ... and i have found my peace again, thank you ...

you had said:
> Oh, and I did think that you are a guy, with the name Jim, BUT of course I really don't know if that's your real name, so it could very well be a ploy to keep your identity secret!

me: 'jim' is my real name ... well, "James" is my first name... .. ... "Warren" is my middle name
... "you can call me anything you , please! ... just don't call me Late For Dinner!!"... .. ... about as secret as i get ...

me from before:

& you replied:

me: Ahhhhhhh! someone Might believe that it was unfair for it to be so fair, perhaps? .... most HUMAN!

you:
> Utopia just isn't possible. And it probably would be more boring...

me: we could expect some practical ... challenges ... .... but realizing the impossible could be exciting

me again:
> > perhaps its unfairness provides the challenge that makes life sporting .... .... say life was analogous to tennis ... ... the unfairness is the net ... ...

your reply:
> Do you think that it is the net that is the unfairness? Because, since the net is equal for both players, then they really have equal opportunity, don't they?

me: point well taken! ... i concede! ... my attempted analogy fails.

you:
> But yes, unfairness does provide a sense of challenge in life, like, if someone is less smart than others, he/she might want to challenge himself to work harder to achieve the same goals... but then, maybe it's impossible for this person to ever achieve the same goals, and he/she then just must dwell on the unfairness of it all, or learn to accept it. And then it might lead to low self-esteem, depression, and on and on. So whether this "challenge" of fighting the unfairnesses in our lives is good or bad, well that is another question.

me: an apt analysis again succinctly said ....
... ... one the problems in utopia design school is to choose between:
1) having every one have identical capabilities and expectations
or
2) having everyone's expectations adjusted to match their capabilities
... ... either of these would seem to degrade indivduality or personal volition ... ... not too utopian.

i had written:
> > life is unfair in order to provide the dramatic tension to support meaningful narrative structure(s) ...

and you replied:
> True. It does lead to a lot of interesting conversation, whether directly or indirectly.

me: ... ... conversation, good ... but my suggestion works too far to the absurd side of the street: "narrative structures" implies fiction ... ... life implies reality ... no cigar, jim!
you're observation is better: life has entertainment value!
