How do y'all know each other so well, emails, etc?

Posted by BlueJay Bird on April 8, 2002, at 1:14:01

i'm new here, someone told me about this board, so please bear with me if what i'm asking is common knowledge

after reading various threads on here (i'm sorry to hear of the death of an apparently beloved and WELL KNOWN poster) i am really wondering how everyone here seems to know each other so well to the point of knowing each other's *real names* and also having each other's email addresses when they are not included in the threads?

do people actually post their email addresses on here (for ALL to see) and then get to know each other (*real names*, etc.) that way (via emailing)?

Hi and welcome to Babble :) I think your questions are valid, hope I can answer them adequately.

Thanks for offering your condolences regarding sar, yes, she will be missed.

Krazy Kat is right, a lot of us chat, and get to know each other that way; but you also get to know one another by reading and posting. It seems that most of us here 'click' with at least one other person, some of us connect with several. We learn more by chatting, at times we trade email addresses or use our posting email address and correspond that way. At times, yes, we speak on the phone, after we feel comfortable with each other and a certain amount of trust has been established. Hopefully one day, I'd like to meet several of the members here.

Sometimes we post our email addresses inside the message, or include it when we post (the little check box). I think you'd enjoy the chat feature because it's "real time", you don't have to sit and wait for the other to respond.

If you want to join us, please feel free to do so. You can go here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/psycho-babble-open

You'll have to register with yahoo to use the chat option, but I think you'll find it worth the trouble.

Hope that helps-

Kiddo

Just to add to what Kiddo says: you can also get to know people over time a bit, just by posting and reading posts on the Board. Without sharing your real name/email.

That's what I have done (havent got act together to Chat yet!) I can see Chat and other contact would also be great. But dont feel that you cant feel part of the Board without them.

So maybe try out both and see what suits you? You're very welcome here, whichever.

Are you saying chat isnt permanent?
If you are then Ill tell you as a computer professional that you should never assume that. Everything online can be tracked, traced, logged, you name it and you dont even know who is doing it. If yahoo wants to they can log all chats. In fact many sites do this for example when a celebrity is chatting and then they post the chat log to a website for people to read who couldnt be there.
FYI.
