Just to add to what Kiddo says: you can also get to know people over time a bit, just by posting and reading posts on the Board. Without sharing your real name/email.
That's what I have done (havent got act together to Chat yet!) I can see Chat and other contact would also be great. But dont feel that you cant feel part of the Board without them.
So maybe try out both and see what suits you? You're very welcome here, whichever.
